Long time area auto racing supporter and official Rick Collins of Willow Grove, Pa. has joined the team of officials at Wall Stadium as the third mile paved oval’s Saturday night series Race Director. Speedway Promoter Cliff Krause announced the appointment earlier this week.

Collins, 49, who has been involved in the sport for over two decades and also serves as a technical inspector for the N.E.E.T.S. Enduro Racing organization, will oversee all racing activities from the track’s control tower. Collins also plans to be in the pit area after the Saturday night races to answer questions from the racers about each night’s activities.

“I feel very honored to have been asked to join the officials’ staff at Wall Stadium,” Collins said. “Diane and Cliff Krause are doing a great job with the facility and the track has been famous for great racing for over six decades. I will do my best to help the track continue in the right direction.”

With Collins now serving as Race Director, Donnie Ericson will fill the post of Saturday night Pit Steward. Allan Brenner will continue as Race Director for the Sunday Small Car Series.

Auto racing fans will get the chance to see stock car racers on the track at Wall Stadium Speedway free of charge this Saturday (4/14/12) starting at 11:00 a.m. For competitors, pit area gates will open at 9:00 a.m. for racecar inspection before the four-hour practice session begins at 11:00 a.m.

While grandstand seating is free of charge this Saturday, the practice session is a paid affair for competitors. Race teams are also reminded that tires will be available at the track during Saturday’s practice session and competitor licenses will be offered in the speedway office.

Once Saturday’s testing is complete, one more pre-season test session will be offered on Saturday, April 21. Then all attention will turn towards Saturday, April 28 and the official 2012 Saturday night Season Opener. That season opening program will feature the Wall Modified, Sportsman, Street Stock, Legend Cars and Factory Stock divisions. An “On Track Party,” where fans will be welcome from the grandstands onto the track to check out all of the racecars up close, will be a part of the season opening festivities.

Weekly Saturday evening stock car racing events will then run until the end of September, with the exception of June 22 and 23 when the annual “Formula D Drift Championship” will be presented.

The fifth mile inner oval at Wall Stadium will also be busy this season as the first event of the season for the “Small Car Series” is set for Sunday, April 22. Pit area gates will open at 9:30 a.m. for the Sunday Series with inspections and practice available for all vehicles. Sunday Series racing will start at noon.

Wall Stadium Speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B.
