After losing “The Captain” Bruce Miglino, a crewmember and good friend of his, Dave Brigati of Long Island, NY was determined to win the Sport Modified feature at Mountain Speedway on Sunday. It wasn’t an easy task for last seasons champion, but when it was all said and done, Brigati and his team stood tall in victory lane. In his second outing at the track this season, Austin Kochenash of Danielstown picked up his second straight Late Model victory and Rich Paciotti of Kunkletown won the biggest race of his career when he picked up the victory in the Mike Moyer, Jr. Factory Stock Memorial event. Ryan Tidman bested the field of TQ Midgets and Matt Pappa took his first win of the season in INEX Legends competition. Alex McCollum notched his first victory of the season in the Bandolero feature event.
Nick Pecko started from the pole and led the opening circuit of the 40-lap Sport Modified feature over Jim Bojohnny, Scott Adams, Chip Wanamaker and Todd Baer. With Pecko still in command, Wanamaker moved by Baer and into the fourth spot on lap eight and Dave Brigati cracked the top five two laps later.
The first yellow flag waved when Brigati and Baer raced hard for the fourth spot. The pair bumped and Baer spun in turn four. The restart wasn’t a success, as Bojohnny and Adams tangled for a moment in turn one. When green flag racing resumed Brigati got the jump on Pecko and took control of the lead.
With eighteen laps complete, Brigati led over Tommy Wanick III, who had quietly worked to the runner up position. Paul Frantz held third, with Jason Hearne and Pecko in tow.
Hearne battled with Frantz and made the pass for third stick on lap 23. Two laps later, Baer took the fourth position from Frantz. Hearne wasn’t finished with his forward progression and took second from Wanick on lap 27.
With Brigati still out front and with five laps remaining, the final caution flew when Pecko and Wanick tangled in turns three and four. Brigati held off his competition on the restart and took his first victory of the season over Hearne, Baer, Pecko and Frantz.
The win was special from Brigati and his team and they dedicated the victory to Bruce Miglino, a special friend and crewmember that passed away late last week.

Lorin Arthofer started from the pole position and led the first circuit of the 30-lap Late Model feature over Larry Fisher, Kyle Harvell, Austin Kochenash and Brad Brown.
Harvell worked into the race lead on the second lap and on Fisher worked into the third spot on the next go-around. One lap later, Kochenash grabbed third from Arthofer.
With five laps complete, Harvell led over Fisher, Kochenash, Arthofer and Brown, but that began to change when Kochenash took second from Fisher on lap eight.
Kochenash lined up second following a lap nine yellow when Mark Tyson pulled off track. Kochenash powered by the leader on the restart and took the race lead.
Kochenash was uncatchable over the remaining laps and took his second victory in as many starts this season. Fisher settled for second, followed by Harvell, Arthofer and Brown.
Lorin Arthofer and Larry Fisher were heat race winners.
With plenty of sponsored laps up for grabs, Dan Pawlicki started from the first position and led the opening circuit of the 30-lap Mike Moyer, Jr. Factory Stock Memorial. Keith Frankenfield held the second spot, with Rich Paciotti, Paul Morgan, Jr. and Kenny Kleppinger in tow.
Frankenfield wasted no time and took the lead with a lap completed and Morgan shot by Pawlicki for second. Meanwhile, Mike Moyer, Sr. cracked the top five.
Paciotti overtook Pawlicki for third on the fifth lap and both he and Morgan stayed glued to the leader. Moyer advanced a position and moved into fourth on lap 11 and then set his sights on Frankenfield, Morgan and Paciotti.
Morgan tried everything he could do to overtake Frankenfield in the second half of the race and the two tangled in turn four with seven laps remaining. With no yellow flag and with heads up driving, Paciotti shot low and into the race lead.
Mark Martini climbed to second and tried to chase down the leader, but Paciotti held on to take the victory in what is the greatest win of his career. Martini settled for second, followed by Moyer, Morgan and Frankenfield.
Heat race victories went to Keith Frankenfield and Rich Paciotti.
Van Michael led the INEX Legends field to the drop of the green flag in the 20-lap feature. Gene Drew ran second, followed by Raven Schrantz, Todd McCollum and Scott Hubler.
With a lap complete, Hubler overtook Schrantz for third and Matt Pappa moved into the fifth spot.
Hubler climbed to second on the second lap and McCollum overtook the leader on lap three
Following a lap four debris caution, Pappa moved into the runner up spot and then passed the leader on lap six. McCollum held second, with Hubler, Schrantz and Michael in tow.
The yellow waved on lap 10 when Hubler spun while mounting a challenge for second. He was forced to restart from the rear of the field, which moved Kevin Nowak to fifth.
Pappa was untouchable over the final leg of the show and took his first win of the season over McCollum, Schrantz, Brandon Bock and Nowak.
Heat race wins went to Brandon Michael, Matt Pappa and Todd McCollum.
Matt Janisch started from the pole in the 20-lap TQ Midget feature but lost the lead early when Austin Fehr overtook him. Buddy Sload held third, followed by Matt Roselli and Ryan Tidman.
Tidman moved by Janisch for third on lap four and then overtook Sload for second on the next lap. In no time at all, Tidman battled Fehr and made the pass for the lead stick in turns one and two on lap seven.
In dominating fashion, Tidman took the victory over Fehr, Robin Johnston, Janisch and Frank Fischer.
Heat race victories went to Buddy Sload and Robin Johnston.
Kyle Fratesi started on the pole in the 15-lap Bandolero feature and was overtaken by Alex McCollum on the first lap. A trio of spins by Matt Nichols slowed the event, but McCollum never let the pressure get to him and drove off to victory over Fratesi, Nichols and Christian Eckes.
Mountain Speedway is just minutes from Hazleton, Pa, located on St. John’s Road, between Routes 93 and 309. Grandstand admission for all regular events is just $12 for ages 11 and older. Children 10 years of age and younger are admitted for free.
