With the 2012 Wall Stadium Speedway stock car racing season opener now in the record books, competitors in five racing divisions are ready to battle for the second time this year this Saturday night, May 5. Plans call for the first green flag of the night to wave at 7:00 p.m.

Opening night Modified winner Steven Reed of Freehold will be one of the drivers to watch, but defending Modified champion Anthony Sesely of Matawan is currently at the top of his game as he attempts to claim a second crown. Chas Okerson of Freehold, Shaun Carrig of Little Falls, Adam LaCicero of Lavallette and Howell’s Ken Woolley, Jr. are just a few of the area’s standout Modified drivers expected to go for the win and the season-long driving title.

In the Sportsman division, Howell’s Eric Mauriello will be trying to add to his opening night win, while 2011 champion Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck be in search of a victory and another crown. Standouts Andrew Krause of Holmdel, Brick’s Shawna Ingraham and Robert Sutphin, Charlie Kremer III of Toms River and Kevin Davison of Howell will be among those offering plenty of competition.

In support division action, opening night winners Scott Riggleman of Manchester in the Factory Stock division, Jackson’s Howie Conk in the Street Stock ranks and Legend Cars defending champ and opening night victor Derek Hopkinson of Toms River will be among the favorites.

The current schedule for the May 5 card will see the competitor pit area open at 1:00 p.m., with a paid testing session for competitors then running from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m. The regular afternoon practice session will then begin at 4:30 p.m. and run until 6:00 p.m. A drivers’ meeting is set for 6:00 p.m. before qualifying action starts at 7:00 p.m. sharp.

The May 5 racing card will take on a holiday theme as Cinco de Mayo will be celebrated complete with Mexican themed music playing over the public address system and Mexican themed food available at the refreshment stands.
