Burt Myers loses ground; Points race tightens up.

Last Saturday at Bowman Gray Stadium, double the normal points were awarded for each race, and double
the normal pressure was placed on the championship contenders.

The night started off on an uneasy note for Burt Myers of Walnut Cove. Myers has qualified on the pole twice this season and was hoping
to repeat the performance in order to protect his points lead in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series.

But Myers’s time was only 13th fastest. His brother, Jason Myers, was in the same predicament. Jason entered the event ranked second in
the points and only qualified 14th.

“The track was in terrible shape when I was qualifying,” said Burt Myers. Qualifying at the Stadium occurs in order of points, so the
Myers brothers took the track first – while the conditions of the track rubber were at their most unfavorable.

The Myers brothers were able to climb up to 11th and 12th, slightly improving from their starting position.

But soaring ahead at the front of the field was Tim Brown of Rural Hall, the last person the Myers brothers wanted to see having a strong
performance on a Double Points Night. Brown took the pole and led every lap to take the checkered for the first Modified race.

With the Myerses finishing 11th and 12th, fingers were crossed across the Stadium as Brown drew the “Madhouse Scramble” number. If he drew an 8
or a 10, the Myers brothers wouldn’t be part of the inversion and would start behind Brown in the second race – a disaster on a night with double
points.

Fortunately for the Myers brothers – and unfortunately for Brown – Brown drew 16th, placing the Myers brothers ahead of Tim Brown for the start
of the second race.

But the night was far from over: Burt Myers had a run-in with Chris Fleming of Mount Airy that cost him a few positions. Burt Myers finished
eighth, while Jason Myers powered forward to finish in third.
After the points had been tallied, Jason Myers passed his older brother to grab the points lead. Burt falls back to second. “When it’s not your
night, it’s not your night,” said Burt Myers.

And although he’s happy to be in the points lead, Jason Myers knows that the lead is a fragile thing. “If Tim would’ve drawn 10th in the first
race, I’d be fifth or sixth in the point right now,” said Jason Myers. “That’s all it takes is one night.”
The #83 team of Tim Brown was frustrated at not being able to climb up more in the points. “I’m happy we had a first race win, but I’m equally as
unhappy about how the second one went - but that’s just part of it,” said Brown. “We didn’t capitalize on our opportunity tonight, but maybe I
will next time.”

Brown stays fourth in the points, with Lee Jeffreys of Wallburg maintaining his third place ranking.
In the Webb Heating & A/C Co. Sportsman Series, Derek Stoltz of Walkertown won the Whelen Sportsman 100 on Saturday – the longest and
most prestigious race of the season. And with double points being awarded, Stoltz shot from fifth up to the points lead. Jeff Garrison of Arcadia
isn’t far behind with a second place ranking.

Billy Gregg of Lexington finished second in the 20-lapper for the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series, keeping him in the points lead.

In the Summer Shootout Stadium Stock Series, Lexington resident Chuck Wall’s victory rockets him up to the top spot on the points ladder.

The battle for the championship continues this weekend at Bowman Gray Stadium – with two nights of racing action on the agenda. On
Friday, it’s the G-OIL 100 for the Modifieds, plus racing for the Sportsman, Street Stock, and Stadium Stock Divisions. And regular adult
admission is just eight dollars.

On Saturday, it’s a Two Dollar Ladies’ Night: women are admitted for only two dollars to see a Modified 100-lapper and the NASCAR Hall of
Fame 150 for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. It’s only the second time at the Madhouse for these full-bodied cars, and it will certainly be an
exciting one.

On both nights: Gates open at 6:00 for practice, and the first race begins at 8:00 PM – this Friday and Saturday night. Ticket prices,
directions, and more information can be found online at www.bowmangrayracing.com or by calling (336) 723-1819.
