As a rookie in the Modified division at Mountain Speedway, Austin Kochenash of Danielsville, PA held off several charges from Nick Pecko and held on Sunday afternoon to take his first career $1500 victory in the division. In only his second start this season, Steve Shultz of Drums, PA took the checkers and the $500 for the win in the Street Stock feature and in his first start at the track this season, Dan Freundt of Lehighton snagged the Four Cylinder victory. Brendon Bock of Long Island, NY notched the INEX Legends victory and Nick Harnage of Calverton, NY scored his fourth Bandolero verdict.
Austin Kochenash started from the pole and led the opening circuit of the 40-lap Modified main event over Ken Vogel, Jr, Brian DeFebo, Nick Pecko and Todd Baer.
Following several yellow flags in the early going, DeFebo grabbed second from Vogel on lap six and Pecko followed through for third a lap later. The yellow flew on lap eight when Baer and Vogel tangled in turns one and two.
Kochenash continued to lead prior to the restart, with DeFebo, Pecko, Brandon Oltra and Justin Gumley in tow. Once green flag racing resumed, Pecko grabbed second from DeFebo and set his sights on the leader.
As halfway approached, it appeared that Pecko had something for Kochenash and the pair dueled side by side for a number of laps. Just when Pecko was about to complete the pass the caution flag flew when Harry Buchman stopped just off the front stretch. With the green flag back out, Kochenash held the point and the top two went at it once more.
Following a long green flag run, Oltra battled DeFebo for third but their strong runs ended on lap 33 when DeFebo was spun to bring out the caution. The roles were reversed with two laps remaining, which set up an exciting restart for the finish.
When it was all said and done, Kochenash held off Pecko to notch his first career Modified victory. Peck settled for second, followed by Gumley, Baer and Dave Brigati.
Heat race victories went to Austin Kochenash and Ken Vogel, Jr.
Bernie Uphold started in the first spot, but Kevin Higgins and led the first go-around of the 25-lap Street Stock feature over Uphold, Steve Shultz, Brian Wozniak and Chip Wanamaker before a pair of lap one yellows slowed the pace.
Green flag racing resumed with Higgins at the point, followed by Uphold, Shultz, Nick Shaw and Alan Schlenker. Uphold grabbed the lead on lap three and Shultz worked on Higgins for second. He then completed the pass on lap five.
Wozniak and Wanamaker began to work back toward the top five and with10 laps complete Shultz took the race lead.
In only his second start of the season, Shultz was not denied the victory. Wanamaker finished as the runner up, followed by Wozniak, Higgins and Schlenker.
Heat race wins went to Kevin Higgins and Chip Wanamaker.
Larry Spencer III started from the pole position and led the opening circuit of the 20-lap Four Cylinder feature over Frank Hughes, Cody Roth, Dan Freundt and Noah Fassman, but Spencer’s day came to an end early following a lap two restart when Hughes got jacked up from behind and was turned into the leader.
Roth assumed the lead and appeared to be on his way to victory until Freundt overtook second place runner, Scott Adams on lap seven.
Freundt reeled in Roth and took command of the event on lap 11 and never looked back to notch his first victory in his first start of the season at the speedway. Roth settled for second, followed by Adams, Hughes and Jay Skupski.
Dan Freundt and Frank Hughes scored heat race victories.
Steve Brewer started from the pole position but Scott Hubler led lap one of the 20-lap INEX Legends race. Brendon Bock then took command on lap three and Dusty Summers climbed to second.
Summers made his presence known and took the lead on lap five and then the yellow flag waved six laps later. The restart was null, however, when Hubler and Bock tangled in turn one following the restart.
Green flag racing resumed and Bock climbed back through traffic and took the lead with five laps remaining. He went on to take the victory over Hubler, Summers, Cole Fratesi and Mitch Dowd.
Heat race wins went to Dusty Summers and Brendon Bock.
Just like the night prior, Nick Harnage held off Kyle Fratesi to score his fourth INEX Bandolero victory of the season.
