Despite a thunderstorm followed by a power outage, Saturday night racing took the stage at Mountain Speedway Saturday night. When it was all said and done, Dave Brigati of Calverton, NY edged Jason Hearne for the $1500 to win Sport Modified main event. Kyle Harvell of New York, NY continued in his winning ways and notched his third straight Late Model victory and Paul Morgan, Jr. of Mountaintop, PA edged Mark Martini to the checkered flag to claim his second straight Factory Stock win. Nick Harnage of Calverton, NY went to victory lane in INEX Bandolero action.
Scott Adams started from the pole position and led the opening circuit of the 50-lap Sport Modified cone race main event over Tommy Wanick, Paul Frantz, Nick Pecko and Jason Hearne.
It didn’t take long for Dave Brigati to crack the top five, which he did when he got by Hearne on the second lap. Shortly after, he climbed to fourth and then overtook Pecko for the third spot before overtaking Wanick for second on lap four. Four laps later Brigati took control of the event. With 10 laps complete, he continued to lead over Adams and Hearne.
The first yellow flag waved for a spin on the backstretch on lap 20. The top two drivers pitted and Pecko inherited the race lead, with Wanick, Adams, Pat Verwys and Robert Fink in tow.
Green flag racing resumed but the yellow flew on the following lap when Verwys spun in turns three and four. Hearne lined up in the second spot for the restart.
Hearne grabbed the race lead from Pecko and then Pecko retook the spot on lap 23. Meanwhile, Brigati began to charge back toward the front. He got around Adams for third on lap 26 and then ducked inside Hearne for second on lap 27. He caught Pecko and took the lead on lap 32.
Following the restart after a quick yellow with a lap remaining, Brigati was able to hold off Hearne to score the victory. Frantz overtook Pecko for third on the last circuit and Adams completed the top five.
Heat race victories went to Dave Brigati and Paul Frantz.
Stone Phillips started first in the 20-lap Late Model feature, but Jim Lamoreaux led the first lap over Phillips, Kyle Harvell and Mark Tyson.
Following a quick yellow for a solo spin on the first lap, Harvell grabbed second from Phillips and ran down Lamoreaux.
Harvell ducked under the leader entering turn one on the fourth circuit and took the top spot. Uncontested, Harvell cruised away to his third straight victory. Lamoreaux settled for second, followed by Phillips and Tyson.
Dan Pawlicki led the Factory Stock field to the drop of the green flag in the 20-lap feature. He led the first circuit over Mark Martini, Paul Morgan, Jr, Keith Frankenfield and Kenny Kleppinger.
Early in the event the battle for second was one to watch. Morgan jumped to the outside of Martini and the pair battled side by side for a number of laps before Morgan eventually took the spot. With 10 laps complete and using a lapped car as a pick, Morgan got by Pawlicki and took the lead.
The first of two yellows flew with five laps remaining when Rich Paciotti and Trevor Ahouse tangled in turn four. Green flag racing resumed but the yellow returned on lap 16 for an incident involving Ahouse and Frankenfield in turn four.
With a good restart, Morgan assumed command but Martini stayed on his game. In a great side by side battle to the checkered, Morgan held off Martini to score his second straight and third overall victory of the season. Pawlicki finished a career-best third, followed by Kleppinger and Kendall Foulk.
Heat race winners were Keith Frankenfield and Mark Martini.
