Like the Star SBM125 this should be a great race. This>> (from the Seekonk web site)

>Feature

Feature will be determined by heats and consolation race. Feature line up will be straight up.

24 cars start race. 100 Green flag laps will be run, cautions do not count. Double file restarts to checker flag.<

Plus the ROC style 5 tire deal will add some strategy to the race. With 10k to win on the line I would expect a stout field to show.

Slick Track racing before the races, at the Seekonk Grand Prix..right down the road.

And hopefully, if the race is over early enough, after the races too!

Jim, we are only at 31 laps sponsored at this point. It would be easier to tell you what has been taken. I have been working the phones, but haven't had much success. Anything you, or anyone you know would be greatly appreciated and I know the teams love having that extra carrot.

TC gonna have a ride for this?

RaceVoice
07-15-2012, 10:27 PM
Not sure if TC will be there. I haven't heard any rumors on that one. With NHMS and Caanan done, let's focus on one of the highest paying modified races in the Northeast. Chris Pasteryak has filed his entry for the show. The two names I haven't heard from any directions are former winner Kirk Alexander (Is he racing at all this year?) and Chuck Hossfeld, who usually runs exceptionally well for this show.

Laps are still available. Let me know how many you would like. Still a little time to get one or three. (or more.... )

It’s sad to see the economy take is toll on this race… Just a few years ago, the Open Wheel Wednesday consolation race was a star studded must see event; now the qualifying heats are for starting position only. At some point along the way, the race unfortunately lost its corporate sponsorship from Viveiros Insurance that led to the back end of the purse shrinking a bit, which in turn has unfortunately led to shrinking fields.

As recently as two years ago, this race was also an outstanding deal for race fans with the front gate at $20. Last year it was $25, now it is $26. That is a 30% increase in two years, especially stark in an area where the cities surrounding the speedway are amongst the most repressed in the nation. (With a 10.2% unemployment rate, the Providence-Fall River-Warwick, RI-MA metropolitan currently ranks 332nd out of 372 metro areas in the US according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.)

That aside, I’m still happy to see that there will enough stout competitors to ensure a good race. Will the 52 take its 4th win in the last 5 years? With how Doug is driving this year and the good chemistry on that team, I’m sure Jimmy the Greek would make the 52 a strong favorite.

Neither TC nor Chuck Hossfeld who had participated in all of the previous Open Wheel Wednesday events was there last year. Perhaps the ROC at Oswego had a like scheduling conflict last year for Chuck. Has TC ever won a modified race at Seekonk? One would think he would want to put a check in that box on his list…

I am pretty sure I remember TC winning an SK race at Seekonks DAV many years ago. The race was added late in the season, they didnt get a good field, but there was a great battle between TC and Tucker Reynolds. As far as full blown modifieds, I can not remember him winning any of the tour races, and he rarely runs with the MRS and hasnt scored a victory yet.

I think these mid-week shows are tough on the drivers and fans. Yes, a midweek show doesnt conflict with weekly racing, but why not run on a Sunday afternoon/night? Perhaps its too close to a Saturday race date. With the current forecast and the amount of cars pre-registered I am a little concerned about how successful this event will be. Hopefully, they bang out the place, and a bunch of drivers show up. Not too many shows where the winner can collect a 10k check.

Change in the roster for OWW. Doug Coby will not be driving for Wayne Darling next Wednesday. Wayne has decided to keep the car home and in one piece as he chases the NWMT title. Instead, Doug will be driving for Ralph Solhem in the 0. Great to see Ralph coming to Seekonk for this show. (I think I know someone who might have had a hand in that. Thanks Jim)

Also, Ryan Preece has not registered, but will be there in his family modified. Ryan purchased 3 laps for next Wednesday as well, along with Wadell Comunnications, an authorized Racing Electronics distributor and repairs. Thank You also goes out to Kevin Rice, who purchased 2 laps, officially starting his his push for the 2013 SBM 125. Thank you to all of the supporters for this. Still more to go. I gotta keep moving.

It certainly was a thrilling race to watch despite a few too many nuisance cations. Those who headed for exits due to a few too many cautions starting about lap 90 missed Matt Hirshmann snookering Ryan Preece on the penultimate lap with a crossover move.
Matt wasn't Mr Perfect as had to come from the back after an incident with early race leader Chris Pasteryak. After a second incident between the two, I have a feeling there will not be Christmas cards sent from Lisbon to Northampton this year.
Todd Annarumo was strong and in contention for the win late in the race before fading about lap 90. I think he finished 4th after #13 Masse passed him near the end. I think Chris Pasteryak was 5th, z#82 Dave Berghman was 6th, and #46 Eric Berndt was 8th. Stefanik was in a late race wreck and Jon McKennedy dropped out.

I heard Ryan Preece is going to Bowman Gray this weekend. I'm thinking Chris Pasteryak might fit in a lot better down there.

Austin Kochenash will be the next big thing in modified racing. His 12th place finish doesn't do justice to the performance he gave. Tommy who?

Great race overall. Glad I was able to be there.

Totally agree, way too many cautions, especially the one that went for about 20-25 laps when they couldn't separate the cars on the frontstrech, but all of it set up the finish.

Groundpounder, you are correct about Austin Kochenash, great performance by a 16 yr old against many seasoned vets on a 1/4 mile bullring. This kid will be heard from in the future, that's for sure, very impressive.

Last 9 laps last night Ryan looked like he was at B/G already. Some ugly driving and games by that otherwise talented kid. With 10K on the line you'll have that sometimes.

Matt "schooled" them again. The deal between the 50 and the 5 was a racing deal as Chris did leave the bottom open. Matt is on a roll for sure but it has to be tough for

those WMT guys to be bested by an SK car. I love these open shows on the bullrings that feature driving talent and not cubic horsedollar$. Young Austin is just 16 ( got his

drivers license just two weeks ago). Pounder is right as he did run in the top 5 in the latter portions of the race until he pitted as the car was giant loose. Came back for a

respectable 12th. I got cheated as I was hoping to see the Chosen One but his motor blew in his heat. I wasn't the only one disappointed. Best damn Modified show I've

seen in awhile.

Congrats to Matty, Ryan, Todd, and even Doug Coby in the Ralph Solhem machine- ( where's my tshirt/sweatshirt Doug?) - the LIMM gang (lol) had me on the edge of my seat. That Austin kid was impressive! Great run for Steve Masse, another one with a bright future! I'm going as far as saying maybe the best race I've ever seen!

Hirschman is like the PA Bandit, he shows up and wins the big shows.. N/S, ROC.. these open events.. that 60 car has really been potent the last several years.. good for Matt and team.. doubt he’s missing the tour, but the tour should be missing him.. seems kinda odd without a Hirschman out there..

This time with the Bob Horn 50, Oswego ROC was in the family 60, and the Star victory was in the 59.. 3 cars , 3 different big paying races, 1 similarity = victory lane!

I'm not sure I'm ready to call it the best one ever, but easily a top 5 for me. I'm just not sure it takes the top prize over the 1981 Spring Sizzler where Bob Polverari won over a hard charging Richie Evans. http://www.staffordmotorspeedway.com/Pages/News/Sizzler-1981.htm

One other thought, why didn't they wait one more lap for Doug Colby to emerge from the pits? I think he would have been more of a factor if he could have used those laps to drive through the field instead of trying to keep from going a lap down. Since he finished with 100 laps complete he must have got a 'lucky dog'...

limodmaniac
08-02-2012, 04:50 PM
Yup, I agree.. Could have given him just a little more time.. I'm guessing they figured too much time had gone by and were just trying to go back to green flag racing. But yes, just a little more time would have been nice!
