After crossing the finish line a close second to a visiting Jimmy Blewett of Howell, Chas Okerson was awarded the victory in the 40-lap Modified stock car main event at Wall Stadium Saturday night. Blewett’s victory was nullified after the Anthony Sesely back up car he was driving failed a post-race technical inspection involving tires not listed in the car’s “tire bank.”

It was the Freehold speedster’s second straight victory following his triumph here in the Garden State Classic on June 30.

Jackson’s Jason Treat was the fist leader of the contest as Blewett, Sesely and a host of others clawed their way to the front. Sesely soon arrived in the runner-up spot, but he and Treat spun in the heat of battle on lap 15. That moved Shanon Mongeau of Farmingdale to first, Blewett to second and Okerson into third. Blewett then chased Mongeau until lap 22 when he slipped into the lead on the inside lane. Okerson followed him through for second.

Blewett then powered on to the finish line with Okerson close behind. Once Okerson was awarded the win Shawna Ingraham of Brick was announced as the runner-up, her best Modified finish ever. Matawan’s Sesely, Mongeau and Shaun Carrig of Little Falls wrapped up the top five.

“This has turned out to be a great couple of weeks of racing for us,” Okerson said referring to his two straight wins. “We did not start off the season as well as we would have liked so this makes us real happy.”

After battling illness and on track problems earlier this season, Howell’s Kevin Davison turned a bad season to good by winning the companion 30-lapper for the Sportsman cars. Davison used a lap 19 restart to get past Jonathan Mandato of Toms River to grab the win. Eric Mauriello of Howell recovered from an early flat tire for second and Mandato was third. Trevor Alspach of Willingboro and Dominic Fattaruso of Brick wrapped up the top five.

Defending champion Derek Hopkinson of Toms River stretched his current point lead by winning his fifth Legend Cars 25-lapper of the season. Robert French of Howell was a tight second with Mike Alcaro, early leader Trevor Alspach of Willingboro and Eatontown’s Malcolm Campbell completing the top five.

Nick Shaw of Chatham posted his second win of the campaign in the 25-lapper for the Street Stocks. Point leader and defending champion Howie Conk of Jackson recovered from a first lap accident to finish second while Beachwood’s Bill Vanderveen, Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg and Bayville’s Mike Tillett wrapped up the top five.

Former Factory Stock champion Mike Bilello of Brick took top honors in the first ever Four Cylinder race at the speedway. Mark Tischler of Martinsville, Holmdel’s Andrew Krause, Mike Carr of Wall and Robby Dunn completed the top five.

Stock car racing returns to Wall Stadium this Saturday night July 21 with the Sportsman cars in the spotlight in their annual 75-lap championship event. “Beach Luau Night” action will also see the Legend Cars, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks and the visiting TQ Midgets all in action. The Modifieds and the Four Cylinder cars will have the night off.

Pit gates will open at 2:00 p.m.; with practice starting at 3:30 p.m. Grandstands will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first qualifying event takes the green flag at 6:00 p.m. Main events are scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
