The cars and stars of Wall Stadium’s highly competitive Sportsman division will enjoy top billing this Saturday night (July 21) as they compete in their annual 75-lap championship race. Legend Cars, Factory Stocks, Street Stocks and the visiting open cockpit Three Quarter Midgets will also be on the card. Grandstand seating opens at 5:00 p.m. and qualifying starts at 6:00 p.m.

Wall Stadium’s Sportsman division features an impressive roster of competitors ranging from tested veterans to young up and coming racing stars. Robert Sutphin and Tim Stephan, both of Brick, represent the seasoned veterans expected to be in the field, while Eric Mauriello of Howell, Holmdel’s Andrew Krause Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan, Joe Nappi of Howell and Jonathan Mandato of Toms River are among the young lions expected to be in the field. Charlie Kremer III of Toms River is the current Sportsman point leader.

The Sportsman 75-lapper is being sponsored by the #65 Vintage Racing Team who will be presenting the trophies along with a $100 bonus to the winner of the race and a $50 bonus to the fast timer. Funds will also be collected in the pit area during the evening to present a special bonus to the leader of lap 65. The #65 Vintage Racing Team is making these presentations in the memory of the late Fred Semoneit, a member of their 1983 Sportsman Champion team. In his honor they have named the event “Fred’s Race.”

Like the Sportsman division, the roster for the invading TQ Midgets also offers many outstanding racers. Robin Johnston of Wayne, Pa., Frank Fischer of Flemington, Mike Tidaback of Little Falls and Ian Cumens of Lyndell, Pa. are just a few of the drivers expected to be in the field.

In addition to the Sportsman 75-lapper and a 25-lap main for the Midgets, The INEX Legend Cars, Factory Stocks and the Street Stocks will also compete in 25-lap main events. The Modifieds and the new Four Cylinder class have the night off. It will also be “Beach Luau” night with free giveaways at the grandstand entrance and some tropical themed refreshments being offered. Fans are urged to wear Hawaiian shirts and other tropical themed attire.

Pit gates will open at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday; with practice starting at 3:30 p.m. Grandstands will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first qualifying event takes the green flag at 6:00 p.m. Main events are scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
