Following a lap one restart, Nick Pecko of Vandling shot by Brian Sones and then held off Dave Brigati in the closing laps en route to his first career Modified victory Saturday night at Mountain Speedway. Following a bump and run on Brian Wozniak with five laps remaining in the Street Stock feature, Chip Wanamaker of Walnutport went on to claim his sixth win of the season. Running a limited schedule this season, Eric Banashefski of Ashley held off Harry O’Neill to snag his third Four Cylinder victory of the year and Wes Gilbert of Preston. MD took top honors in the 4C Supermodified main. Nick Harnage of Calverton, NY kept his winning streak alive and claimed his eleventh Bandolero win.

Brian Sones led the Modified field to the drop of the green flag in the 40-lap main event and led the first circuit over Nick Pecko, Todd Baer, Ken Vogel, Jr. and Brandon Oltra until the yellow flag flew when Vogel tangled with Baer and then headed to the infield with car trouble.

Green flag racing resumed and Pecko grabbed the race lead. Sones retained second and by lap five, Oltra held the third spot.

Following a quick lap six yellow flag, Dave Brigati got by Baer for the fourth spot and then took third from Oltra. He then got under Sones for second on lap 12 and then set sail for Pecko.

Baer slowed on the track and brought out a lap 16 yellow flag and Pecko held his own to stay in the lead following the restart. Despite having a mirror full of Brigati in the second half of the race, Pecko remained smooth and consistent to notch his first career win in the division.

Brigati settled for second, followed by Oltra, Baer and Dave Calabrese.

Brian Sones and Todd Baer won qualifiers.

With 40-laps and double points on the line for the Street Stock competitors, the show was expected to be a fight to the finish, and indeed it was.

Chas Castiglione started from the pole and led the opening lap over Alan Schlenker, Tony Hilliard, Chris Burge and Bernie Uphold. With one lap in the books, Burge moved under Hilliard for third and Steve Shultz climbed to fourth two laps later.

Shultz then moved to second behind Castiglione, but a flat tire forced him to pit under a lap nine yellow flag. Castiglione held the point for the restart with Burge, Schlenker, Hilliard and Howie Conk, Jr. in tow.

Following the restart, Castiglione tried to hold off his competition through turns one and two, but some contact from Schlenker took him around and collected Uphold and Burge. Green flag racing resumed and Conk was scored as the leader, followed by Chip Wanamaker, Hilliard, Paul Morgan, Jr. and Mark Tyson.

Wanamaker took control of the race after the restart and Brian Wozniak made his way into the top five. Making the outside groove work, Wozniak picked off cars one at a time and found himself in the second spot following a quick yellow on lap 15.

With the green flag back out, Wozniak overtook Wanamaker. He continued to lead at the halfway mark over Wanamaker, Kevin Higgins, Shultz and Conk.

With 11 laps remaining, Hilliard and Uphold made contact in turns three and four. In an attempt to avoid the spinning cars, Tyson shot up the track and made hard contact with the retaining wall. Tyson appeared to be shaken, but he climbed from his mount under his own power.

Green flag racing resumed and Wozniak continued to hold off Wanamaker, but that all changed when Wanamaker gave Wozniak a shot to push him up the track in turn four with five laps remaining. Wozniak muscled his car to keep it from not spinning, but the lack of momentum allowed Shultz to scoot by for second.

Wanamaker went on to take the victory, which was his six of the season. Shultz finished as the runner-up, followed by Conk, Wozniak and Morgan.

Heat race victories went to Chip Wanamaker and Chas Castiglione.

Chris Burge, Jr. started from the pole position in the 20-lap Four Cylinder feature but lost the race lead to Larry Spencer III before a single lap was scored. With a lap in the books, John Smith ran second, followed by Harry O’Neill, Noah Fassman and Burge.

O’Neill overtook Smith for second on lap two and then reeled in Spencer. He made a bid for the lead on lap six and it stuck, Moving O’Neill to the point.

Meanwhile, Eric Banashefski began to climb forward and moved by Smith for third on lap eight. Following a lap 12 yellow that included Burge and Amanda Green, Banashefski overtook Spencer for second. He then challenged O’Neill for the lead and took the top spot on lap 13.

Despite strong efforts from O’Neill in the closing laps, Banashefski held his own and edged O’Neill to the stripe for his third win of the season. Frank Hughes made a late race charge to finish in the third spot, followed by Fassman and Spencer.

John Smith and Harry O’Neill were heat race winners.

Steve Renn started from the pole position and led the first circuit of the 20-lap 4C Supermodified feature over Ron Merlino, Steve Renn, Ron Merlino, Jr. and Wes Gilbert.

With three laps complete Merlino, Jr. got under Merlino for third and Gilbert followed. Gilbert then grabbed third and with five laps complete he overtook M. Renn for second.

With just six laps in the books, Gilbert caught and passed S. Renn for the race lead. Gilbert opened up a sizable gap over second place and went on to score his first victory of the season over S. Renn, Merlino, Jr, Merlino and Bob Renn.

Gilbert picked up the heat race victory as well.
