The highly competitive and very popular open wheel racers of the Sportsman division will lead the action this Saturday night, August 18, as Wall Stadium salutes our local heroes on “First Responders Night.” In appreciation for their community service, all First Responders will be admitted free when they show their identification. Open cockpit TQ Midgets, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks, Legend Cars, the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club and a Powder Puff race will also be on the agenda. Grandstands will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first qualifying event takes the green flag at 6:00 p.m. Main events are scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

As the campaign races through the final two months of the regular season, the fight for the point lead in the Sportsman division is spirited. According to the speedway website, www.wallspeedwayracing.com, veteran Robert Sutphin of Brick leads Charlie Kremer III of Toms River by just a few markers in the race for the crown. Holmdel’s Andrew Krause, Jonathan Mandato of Toms River and Howell’s Eric Mauriello complete the top five. The race for the title is so close that only fifty points separate the top five in the race for the Sportsman title.

The Street Stock title fight is also close as Nick Shaw of Chatham leads defending champion Howie Conk of Jackson by just ten points. Scott Riggleman of Manchester is the current Factory Stock point leader, while defending champ Derek Hopkinson is at the top of the Legend Cars point list.

Pit gates will open at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday; with practice starting at 3:30 p.m. Grandstands will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first qualifying event takes the green flag at 6:00 p.m. Main events are scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
