When the checkered flag waves on Saturday, Tim Brown of Rural Hall is hoping to make history.

With 63 years’ worth of championships, a few drivers stand out as dominant forces in their day. In the 1950’s, Pee Wee Jones was a six-time champ. Since the 1990’s, Junior Miller has claimed six titles, with Burt Myers earning five. But most impressive are Ralph Brinkley and Tim Brown – each with eight championships.

Foremost on Tim Brown’s mind as he races in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series on Saturday will be the title for 2012. With this Saturday’s race being the season-ending event, Brown has just 150 laps until he may potentially be crowned the Bowman Gray Stadium champ for the ninth time – an achievement that would give Brown more Modified championships than any other competitor in 64 years.

And Brown starts with a healthy lead going into Saturday’s race. He sits on top of the current rankings, 44 points ahead of Jason Myers of Walnut Cove. Myers needs to finish 12 positions ahead of Brown to steal the title away – but with 150 laps and the infamous double-file restart rule, anything can happen.

Jason Myers will be gunning for his first championship, hoping to join his older brother Burt in the prestigious list of Bowman Gray Stadium champions.

The final night of racing action will take place this Saturday in the Carolina Farm Credit 150 – 150 white-knuckled laps of Modified racing before the champion is crowned. The Sportsman, Street Stock, and Stadium Stock Divisions will also duke it out on this final night – and the evening will end with the season’s final 109 U-Pull-It Train Race.

Gates open at 6:00 for practice, and the first race begins at 8:00 PM – this Saturday night. Ticket prices, directions, and more information can be found online at www.bowmangrayracing.com or by calling (336) 723-1819.
