Waterford Speedbowl will host United
Way of Southeastern Connecticut’s 2012 fall fundraising campaign “kickoff”
Wednesday evening, marked by an appearance by NASCAR Camping World Truck
Series competitor David Starr and his #81 Zachry Holdings, Inc. Toyota
Tundra race truck. The event will coincide with the Speedbowl’s scheduled
Wild’ n Wacky Wednesday racing card, the track’s popular mid-week
motorsports program.

The kickoff event will bring together United Way of Southeastern
Connecticut partner agencies and their invited guests. Results of “pace
setter” campaign companies and organizations will be announced at the
event by a select group of partners that have already begun fundraising
campaigns ahead of the fall fundraising efforts. The event will begin at
5:30pm, with a brief speaking program beginning at approximately 6:25pm.
More information about how companies, no matter their size, can get
involved with the 2012 fundraising campaign will also be available.

2012 United Way of Southeastern Connecticut Co-Chairs Pat Gaffey, Senior
Director, Pfizer External Affairs & Communications / Science, Technology &
Medicine / Pfizer Inc. and Harry Rodriguez, President, AFT Local 5123 at
Lawrence & Memorial Hospital will serve as master of ceremonies for the
kickoff event. Invited guests include partner agencies and their guests
within United Way of Southeastern Connecticut’s network.

David Starr, driver of the #81 Zachry Holdings, Inc. #81 Toyota Tundra on
NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series will be on hand to speak and sign
autographs for campaign kickoff attendees along with Speedbowl patrons.

The Speedbowl’s Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday race program gets underway at
7:00pm with action for its Legend Cars, Bandolero, X-Car and Super X-Car
divisions, along with a weekly “wacky” race event. Grandstands open at
5:30pm and the Speedbowl and United Way of Southeastern Connecticut
encourage race fans to bring canned tuna and peanut butter with them to
the Speedbowl. A collection bin will be located on the Speedbowl midway
at the main entrance, with all donated items going to the United Way’s
food center, benefitting those in need.

United Way of Southeastern Connecticut is a non-profit organization that
improves the lives of people who live and work in New London County and
strengthens the community through local health and human service programs.
United Way supports programs which improve community wellness, help
children thrive, supply basic human needs, and promote independence.
