Anthony Sesely of Matawan won both the final battle and the season-long war Saturday night by winning the final points awarding 40-lapper for the Modified stock cars. It was Sesely’s fourth win of the season and that clinched his second straight driving crown.

Christian LaCicero of Lavallette jumped to the lead at the outset before a multi-car pile-up in turn two on the fourth lap slowed the action. Sesely advanced to second shortly after the restart and hounded LaCicero until the seventh lap when he swung to the outside lane to take the lead. From then on Sesely was in control with Shanon Mongeau of Farmingdale chasing him home for second. Freehold’s Steven Reed, Frank Boardwick of Keyport and Howell’s Ken Woolley, Jr. completed the top five.

“This title seems even more special than last year’s title,” Sesely said. “We almost didn’t race this year. If our sponsors did not step up we weren’t going to race. I owe this to my family and my sponsors.”

Going into the final points awarding 30-lapper for the Sportsman cars, Eric Mauriello of Howell and Holmdel’s Andrew Krause were locked in a tie for the title. While young Joe Nappi of Howell took the lead and raced on to his first career win in the contest, Krause and Mauriello battled late in the race for top five finishes and the crown.

That battle finally came to a head entering the third turn on the final lap as Mauriello and Krause raced side-by-side for position. When the duo touched, Krause’s car drifted high giving Mauriello the position and the title. At the finish it was Nappi, Zack Alspach of Willingboro, Mauriello, Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan and Krause.

Joey Helberg of Union raced to his first win of the year in the 25-lapper for the Factory Stocks. Jim Downey of Cliffwood Beach was the runner-up, while Steve Michel of Egg Harbor and Andrew Krause were third and fourth. Despite a broken rocker arm in his car’s engine that slowed his pace late in the race, Scott Riggleman of Manchester finished fifth to claim the driving crown on the strength of five wins during the season.

Mike Alcaro of Newton took the win in the 25-lap Legend Cars man event over Trevor Alspach of Willingboro. Derek Hopkinson of Toms River, a nine-time winner here this year, overcame a first lap tangle to finish third in an effort to claim his second straight title. Zack Alspach and Rob Hyer of South Amboy wrapped up the top five. This race is being reviewed and is not yet official.

Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg fought off the challenges of Nick Shaw of Chatham to claim his first win of the season. Both drivers were happy, as Shaw’s runner-up finish was more than enough to earn him the 2012 Street stock driving title. Bill Vanderveen of Beachwood, Bayville’s Mike Tillett and Dominic Casola of Colts Neck were third through fifth.

Wall’s Brian Crosby, a rookie here in 2012, enjoyed his third win of the season and clinched the 4 Cylinder championship in the process. Mike Wohl was second, while Tom Chilson, Joe DeGuiglio and Dan Birdsall wrapped up the top five.

Former champion Glenn Osborne of Brick won a 15-lap race for former champions who were being honored at the speedway Saturday night.

Wall Stadium will roar back into action on Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21, with the running of the annual “Spooky Spectacular.” With racing starting at 2:00 p.m. both days, Saturday’s schedule will feature the Modifieds in a 75-lapper, the Sportsman Cars in a 50-lapper, the Legend Cars, Street Stocks and Trucks in 30-lappers and the TQ Midgets in a 25-lap main event. On Sunday, the Factory Stocks and 4 Cylinder cars are slated for 50-lappers and a Mechanic’s Race and a Demolition Derby will also be on the agenda.

Once the October race is in the books, all attention will turn towards the annual Turkey Derby set for Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend during the daylight hours.

Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on most Saturdays and Sundays during the summer months. The speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B.
