There are many reasons for optimism when you look at the recently released 2013 Star Speedway season schedule, beginning this weekend at the Northeast Motorsports Expo in Augusta, Maine.

Star will have several race cars on display, along with schedules, registration forms, a 2012 season video replay to watch, and the launch of a raffle ticket sale for the June 15, SBM 125 Modified Open. The 2013 season surely will be a very busy year at the historic quarter-mile oval located in southern New Hampshire.

The cars of Star EKeys Modified Champion Jacob Dore, 2012 SBM 125 third place finisher and 2011 Star Champion Josh Cantara will be on display this weekend. The ACT Tour and Legends cars of driver Taylor Martin, two cars from the new 4star Modified division that Ivan Kaffel and TJ Bleau will drive in 2013, and a NEMA Midget will all be on display this weekend in Augusta. For more information and the show schedule go to: www.northeastmotorsportsexpo.net.

As part of the show, Star Speedway will begin selling raffle tickets for the June 15, SBM 125 Modified Open. The 2012 raffle was successful as a raceday 50-50 drawing because of the numerous prizes awarded, and the fact that half of the money raised was paid back to the racers who did not qualify. But time ran out before ticket selling was completed last season.

Therefore, a raffle will begin this weekend and last up until the on track cash drawings take place before the start of the main event. In addition to FOUR cash prizes estimated at a minimum of $500 each, there will also be numerous additional prize winners, with donated items not just for race fans.

The Seekonk, Mass., Speedway has donated a pair of tickets to their Modified Open, which takes place on Wednesday, July 17. LATICRETE International will donate at least one pair of Boston Red Sox premium seats, Rockingham Boat is donating a ski package, and Prodigy Plumbing and Drain has offered a $75 gift card.

There will be shirt giveaways, dinner gift cards and multiple gift subscriptions to name a few. Many more prizes will be announced before the June 15 drawing. Fewer than 45 laps remain unsponsored for the race. Each lap pays money to the race leader and also to another top ten car by draw. Laps are $50 apiece. Email lap sponsor inquiries to:

Among the 2013 schedule highlights at Star is the first race for the thriving EKeys 4 Cars Tour-Type Modified division on May 4, a May 11 opening night for the Allen's Outlaw Late Models, and a return of the NEMA Midgets on June 8.

The SBM 125 Modified Open on June 15 will be the highest paying race of the season, in large part because of donations to the purse made by race fans. July 6 marks the much anticipated return of the ACT Tour to Star.

Following a summer packed with special race events that includes the Woody's Auto Strickly Stocks and the Allen's Coffee Brandy Outlaws, the longest running ISMA Supermodified event of the season takes the green on September 7. The Halloween Howler enduro event wraps up a busy season on October 26.
