Unlike the last few years at Mountain Speedway, this seasons schedule has undergone a makeover, with more divisions running on a weekly basis, giving fans more hardcore racing for their hardcore dollars. It also features several bigger shows and a few more races for each division with hopes of building on what will hopefully be a premier season.

The last four years saw the Modifieds and Sport Modifieds race on opposing weeks for the majority of the season, giving racers a two-week hiatus from competition. Not only are the fan favorite Modifieds on the card more this year, but there are times throughout the season where both divisions will compete on the same night.

Following two days of preseason practice, the season will kick off with annual “Pole Day” and 6/8-Cylinder Enduro on Saturday, April 6 and then Cone Race style features will be held on the following day for the Modified, Street Stock Four cylinder, INEX Legends and Bandolero divisions.

The following weekend will hold the same format with the 4-Cylinder Enduros combined with Saturday’s Pole Day and then Sunday will host the Sport Modifieds, Late Models, Factory Stocks, INEX Legends and Bandoleros.

As done in the past, the early part of the season will mainly consist of Sunday events before switching to Saturday night racing during the summer months. Something new for this season will be the starting time, as the green flag will drop for heat race action at 7 PM, giving fans more racing under the lights.

Several big shows are slated throughout the year, including an unheard of $1,500 to win (plus lap money) in the 3rd annual Mike Moyer, Jr. Memorial factory Stock event. The 100-lap show is scheduled for Saturday, June 22 and is expected to bring out some of the fiercest competitors for the big prize.

Visits from the Atlantic Coast Old Timers, 4C Super Modifieds and ATQMRA Vintage Midget Club are just some of the extras planned for this season, plus several Powder Puff events are planned for the women who normally don’t compete on the 1/3-mile asphalt oval.

A pair of 35-lap $1,000 to win Modified events are slated for Saturday, May 25, followed by a 50-lap Late Model event the following month and then a 50-lap $1,500 to win Sport Modified show. Saturday, August 24 will feature a 75-lap $2,000 to win Modified event and the list of bigger events continues up to the season ending “King of the Mountain”, which always showcases big money paying events during the famed event in October.

In an effort to save the racers a few dollars this season, speedway Promoter, Joe Callavini, has decided to implement a tire rule for Modifieds, Sport Modifieds and Late Models on a weekly basis this season. More information in regards to the implemented rule will be announced in the upcoming weeks. Furthermore, one of the minimal rule changes that will go in effect is that the INEX Legends drivers will be required to use arm restraints this season.

Although drivers can still purchase permanent pit spots, there will be no charge for temporary spots this year and drivers in the Sport Modified and Late Model divisions will be allowed to use two way radios, as long as the driver continues to monitor the track frequency and Race Director.

Ms. Motorsports 2013, Katie Todorow, has accepted the invite to visit the speedway this season and Big Wheel races for the kids, plus even more fun activates are slated for the year, including annual Autograph and Camera nights, where the fans will get the opportunity to get up and close with the speedway stars.

Minimal rules changes are in the works and are expected to be released within the next month. All rules can be downloaded from the speedway website.
