With hopes of running the quickest lap to guarantee a good starting spot for the Opening Day features that will be run at Mountain Speedway on Sunday, drivers in the Modified, Street Stock and Four Cylinder divisions took to the track for time trials on Saturday. When it was all said and done, Brian DeFebo of Berwick laid down the quickest Modified lap, Chip Wanamaker of Walnut blistered off the quickest Street Stock circuit and Scott Adams of Lake Ariel was the quickest of the Four Cylinders. There will be a redraw on Sunday to determine the official starting line up for each feature.

A 100-lap 6/8-Cylinder Mountain Madness Enduro event was also held and it began with Paul Hartwig, Jr. leading the first lap after starting on the pole position. With only three laps in the books, Scott Riggleman grabbed the lead, dropping Hartwig to second. Scott Sip ran third, followed by Steve Tito and Lee Allen.

Sip overtook Hartwig for second on lap six and two laps later, Tito moved by Hartwig for third. Meanwhile, Richard Petey cracked the top five.

Riggleman continued to show the way over Sipe, Petey, Tito and Allen with 50 laps in the books, but looking for his first win at the track, Sipe began to reel in the leader.

With Riggleman still in command, Sipe and Petey battled hard for second and at one point, Petey took the spot. Sipe battled back to regain it before he suffered mechanical problems and was forced to the pits on lap 63.

With Riggleman and Petey being the only cars on the lead lap, Petey began to make a charge at the leader. It appeared that the event would come down to a great battle at the finish, but Petey encountered rear end problems in the late going and had to nurse his ride to the finish.

Riggleman went on to take the victory, which wasn’t only his first of the season, but also his second in three starts. Petey settled for second, followed by Bill Schwenck, Tito and Allen.
