With his second straight Modified victory at Mountain Speedway on Sunday, Brian DeFebo of Berwick, PA extended his Modified win record to 45 after taking the lead and pulling away from Todd Baer in the 40-lap main event. Dave Brigati of Calverton, NY held off Jason Hearne to take his first Sport Modified win of the season and Paul Morgan, Jr. of Mountaintop, PA scored his first career Street Stock win. Scott Adams of Lake Ariel, PA continued in his winning ways by notching his third straight Four Cylinder victory and Raven Schrantz of Slatington, PA held off her competition to take top honors in the INEX Legends main.

Amber Fortin started from the pole position and then led the opening lap over Todd Baer, Dave Brigati, Brian Sones and John Fortin, Sr. in the 40-lap Modified main event. The first of two yellow flags waved on the next circuit when Sones got sent around in turns one and two.

Green flag racing resumed and Baer grabbed the race lead. DeFebo slipped by A. Fortin for second and tried to reel in the leader.

DeFebo hounded Baer in the early going and with 13 laps complete he made a bid for the race lead. The car stuck and DeFebo took command. With 17 laps in the books, he continued out front with Baer in second, followed by John Fortin, Sr, John Fortin, Jr. and Sones.

Following a quick yellow on lap 25, DeFebo continued to show the way with Baer in tow. With 15 laps to go, Sones completed a pass on A. Fortin for third.

DeFebo distanced himself from the field over the closing laps and took his second straight victory of the season over Baer, Sones, A. Fortin and J. Fortin, Sr.

Heat race victories went to Todd Baer and Dave Brigati.

Travis Fisher led the Sport Modified field to the drop of the green flag in the 40-lap event and led the first circuit over Paul Frantz, Dave Brigati, Jason Hearne and Tommy Wanick III. Brigati overtook Frantz for second and then shot by Fisher for the lead on lap three. Hearne followed through as well and moved into second.

With Brigati still in the lead, several quick yellows slowed the event. With 20 laps complete Brigati remained the race leader, followed by Hearne, Frantz, Fisher and Wanick.

Despite efforts from Hearne over the closing laps, Brigati took the checkers to score his first win of the season, followed by Hearne, Frantz and Wanick. Nick Baer made his first career Sport Modified start and finished fifth.

Paul Frantz and Dave Brigati notched heat race wins.

Tony Hilliard started from the pole position in the 25-lap Street Stock feature and gave up the lead to Paul Morgan, Jr. before a lap was complete. Hilliard rode in second, followed by Chris Burge, Brian Wozniak and Kevin Higgins.

Higgins snuck by Wozniak in the early going and then overtook Hilliard for third on lap three. Meanwhile, Burge began to pressure Morgan for the top spot.

Chip Wanamaker cracked the top five and then with nine laps complete he got by Higgins for third. The two battled side by side for many laps and swapped the spot multiple times until the yellow flag flew for a single car spin on lap 11.

Burge took the lead from Morgan following the restart but the lead swapped again following a lap 16 yellow. Despite pressure from behind, Morgan remained smooth and notched his first career victory in the division over Burge, Wanamaker, Higgins and Wozniak.

Mahoning Valley Speedway (MVS) Street Stocks were invited to compete under their own set of rules for the afternoon. Steve Hoffman finished ninth and was also the highest finishing MVS Street Stock and picked up a $300 bonus for his efforts.

Heat race victories went to Paul Morgan, Jr. and Chris Burge.

John Banashefski led the Four Cylinder field to the drop of the green flag in the 20-lap showdown. He led the first circuit over Larry Spencer III, Jay Skupski, Scott Adams and John Smith.

Following a quick yellow with two laps complete, Spencer took the lead and Adams climbed to second. Coming off two straight wins so far this season, it didn’t take Adams long to power by Spencer and into the race lead.

Skupski began to make his move and with eight laps complete he ran in second behind Adams. Spencer ran third, followed by J. Banashefski and Smith.

Adams took the white flag and with lapped cars ahead, Skupski did his best to take advantage. With a daring move in the final corner, Skupski nearly edged Adams for the victory. With his win by a bumper, Adams continues to remain undefeated in the division this season. Skupski netted a second place finish, followed by J. Banashefski, Spencer and Joe Russell.

Larry Spencer III and Scott Adams picked up heat race wins.

Carl Jones started from the pole and was overtaken by Raven Schrantz for the lead in the INEX Legends feature. She led the first circuit over Brad Lowmaster, Mitch Dowd, Jones and Brendon Bock before the yellow flag waved for an incident involving Matt Papa, Todd McCollum and Dowd.

Green flag racing resumed and with 10 laps complete, Bock grabbed the lead. Following several lap 11 yellows, Schrantz retook the top spot on a restart and Bock settled into second.

The yellow flag waved for a stopped car on the speedway with seven laps remaining and the drivers were told on the radio that because of the amount of time and yellow flags, the race will be complete if there should be another incident.

With Schrantz still in the lead, trouble struck sixth placer runner, Brandon Oltra, who was making his first career start in the division. Without warning, a rod went through the block of Oltra’s ride, setting it ablaze in a very scary front stretch incident.

Oltra wisely drove to turn two, where a track worker extinguished the flames. Despite being shaken, Oltra did not appear to be badly injured. He credited his three layer racing suit for preventing serious burns to his legs and arms.

Matt Papa and Raven Schrantz were heat race winners.
