This Saturday, May 4 the EKeys 4 Cars Modifieds will not only begin their race season at the historic Star Speedway quarter-mile in southern New Hampshire, but it will also mark the first of four very important races for the "Ground-Pounders".

These early season events carry more importance than usual, because the points leader after those first four events of 2013 will be the only guaranteed starter in the June 15, $40,000 3rd annual SBM 125 Modified Open at Star. With a large field of numerous championship winning drivers attempting to qualify for that event, being the only driver locked into the field carries added significance.

"That's pretty important," understated 2012 Star track Champion Jacob Dore from Sanford, Maine. "It really made the day a lot easier last year. We'll work on consistency and try to get there."

Among Dore's primary competition is 2012 champion Josh Cantara, also from Maine. Cantara surprised the touring Modified teams last June with a third place finish in the 125-lap SBM 125 special event.

"We're real happy with our performance, finishing third with all of those guys there," Cantara noted. "The track is a little bit tricky to get the hang of. We have a basic setup down. It throws us off a little bit throwing their tour tires on, but at the same time our car runs really good on those tires.

Other contenders include Todd Annarummo of Swansea, Mass., who expects to run his first full season at Star. Mike Douglas Jr., has made changes to his Spafco Chassis car with hopes of earning his first win and also make a run at the championship. The EKeys Modifieds will go 40 laps on Saturday in their season opener.

The Woody's Auto Strickly Stocks have some new entries this year that should make this a very competitive season from the start. Chris Augevich, the 2012 Star Track Champion returns to defend his title, but there are several drivers who have an equal shot of dethroning him this season.

"Slammin" Sam Perabody, Chris Kingsley, Russ Douphinette, Bobby Bouchard, Charlie Baldwin, Mike Williams and Bret Culleton are among the contenders this season. The new Star 4 Modified division is also on Saturday's schedule, along with four and eight cylinder enduros to conclude the night of racing entertainment.

Just added to Saturday's schedule are three practice sessions and a 10-lap non-points exhibition race for the popular Allen's Outlaw Late Models. The Allen's Outlaws run their first official race of the season on May 11, along with the Modifieds, NEMA Lites, Legends, Strickly Stocks and the return of the Roadrunners.

This Saturday, May 4 the gates will open at 2:30 PM, with practice at 3:30 PM, and the first heat race at 6:00 PM. Adult admission is $13. Seniors and Juniors admission is only $10, with kids 10 and under admitted free of charge with a paid adult.
