After riding in the third spot for most of the 40-lap Sport Modified feature Sunday at Mountain Speedway, Jason Hearne of New Egypt, NJ pulled off a spectacular pass and moved from third to first with three laps remaining to notch his second feature win of the season. Kyle Harvell of New York, NY waited for the right opportunity and made a bid for the lead on Jim Lamoreaux in the late going to take his first win of the season in the Late Model feature and Matt Mattern, Jr. got by Stephanie Moyer to take his second Factory Stock win of the season. Brendon Bock of Long Island, NY bested Brad Lowmaster for the INEX Legends victory and Connecticut’s Andrew Morin beat his brother, Kenneth to the strip for the INEX Bandolero victory.
Travis Fisher started from the pole position and led the opening circuit of the 40-lap Sport Modified feature over Jason Hearne, Paul Hartwig, Jr, Andrew Dzenkowski and Dave Brigati. Dzenkowski slipped back a few positions, allowing Brigati to moved into fourth and Paul Frantz grabbed fifth.
After a few weeks of tweaking on his ride, Fisher proved that the improvements paid off, as he continued to set the pace over Hearne, Brigati, Frantz and Hartwig by halfway.
It became evident that the long green flag run gave some drivers a handful, including Hearne, who slipped up the track in turn four, allowing Brigati to take second on lap 22.
The second and final yellow flag of the event slowed the pace when Hartwig and Dzenkowski collided in turn three. Although Dzenkowski’s car went up and over Hartwig’s, both drivers appeared to be uninjured.
Following the restart with Fisher leading over Brigati, Hearne retook the second spot and then bolted underneath Fisher for the lead. He never faltered and took the checkers for the second time this season. Fisher finished a career-best second, followed by Brigati, Frantz and Cam Ayers.
Jason Hearne and Dave Brigati were heat race winners.
Jim Lamoreaux started from the pole and led the opening lap of the 30-lap Late Model main over Kyle Harvell, Dave Brigati, Mark Tyson and Frank Hughes. With three laps complete, Brigati overtook Harvell for second and set his sights on the leader.
With Lamoreaux still in command, the yellow flag flew on lap nine when Tyson looped his ride in turn two. Following the restart, Riley Moczulski got by Hughes to take fifth.
Brigati stayed with the leader and the duo battled hard for the lead. Meanwhile, Harvell settled into third and took in the show that took place ahead of him. Eventually Brigati took the lead with nine laps remaining and two laps later Harvell moved by Lamoreaux for second.
Harvell pulled to the back bumper of Brigati and let him know that he was there. With four laps remaining, Harvell made his move to the bottom and moved to the lead when Brigati was forced to give up the spot.
Harvell went on to take the checkers over Brigati for his first win of the season. Lamoreaux settled for third, followed by Tyson and Moczulski.
Jim Lamoreaux and Kyle Harvell were heat race winners.
Stephanie Moyer paced the Factory Stock field for the start of the 20-lap feature and led the opening lap over Matt Mattern, Jr, Alan Schlenker, Trevor Ahouse and Kendal Foulk.
Mattern was content running in second for the early portion of the race and Moyer continued out front, leading more laps than she did during her entire rookie season (last year).
Mattern began to get antsy for the lead and tired both the high and low side around Moyer, but she held the line and the spot continuously, until lap 14.
With only six laps remaining, Mattern got by Moyer and took command. He drove off to take his second win of the season. Moyer finished a career-best second, followed by Schlenker, Ahouse and Foulk.
Mitch Dowd led the INEX Legends field to the drop of the green flag and led the first circuit over Brendon Bock and Brad Lowmaster.
With one lap complete, Bock took command and Dowd settled into second.
With Bock still in command at the halfway point, Dowd began to slow and Lowmaster took the runner up spot. With five laps remaining and with Bock still out front, Dowd pulled to the infield and retired following a terrific run.
Bock went on to claim his second victory of the season.
