Open Competition Show and INEX Legends National Qualifier Slated in June at Mountain

The track management at Mountain Speedway in St. Johns, PA has recently announced that a $1,00 to win, full-fendered open competition show along with a national INEX Legends qualifier will be held in conjunction with the originally scheduled Mountain Madness Enduro Series events on Sunday, June 2.

The open competition show is the first in years that the speedway has held and as the old say, “anything goes” for the 50-lap contest. All eight-cylinder cars with ANY modifications are welcome, from enduro cars to Late Models. Basically, as long as the cars have fenders, they will be allowed to compete. The “no rules”, aside from safety applies to tires as well, meaning that there isn’t even a tire rule for the event. The show will pay $1,000 to the winner and the second place prize is $300, followed by $200, $100 and $100 for third through fifth. The race entrance fee will be announced on the track website and Facebook page.

The speedway is hopeful that the open competition event will be successful and that drivers show the fans the same ingenuity that has been seen in the same type of events years ago.

The INEX National Qualifier is the first event of its kind that the speedway has hosted. The winner of the points paying, $300 to win (if 20 or more cars are registered) will earn a guaranteed provisional starting spot in the 2013 National Championship Race.

According to the INEX Legends website, National qualifier races will be held at various speedways worldwide in which the first Pro, Master, Semi-Pro and Young Lion driver will become eligible for a provisional starting spot in their 2013 National Championship Race. If the top finishing driver is already eligible that eligibility becomes available to the next in line. These drivers will still go through the normal qualifying procedures at the Nationals. If the eligible starters fail to qualify for the A- Main on their own merits, then the top six eligible provisional starters will be placed to the rear of the A-Main based on their finish in preliminary (B,C,D) events. Qualifier races will also award National Touring points to determine a 2013 Touring champion in Young Lions, Semi- Pro, Masters, and Pro.

Pit gates will open at 10:30 AM and warm ups will begin at 12:30 PM. The grandstands will open at noon and racing is slated to kick off at 2 PM.

Mountain Speedway is just minutes from Hazleton, Pa, located on St. John’s Road, between Routes 93 and 309. Grandstand admission for all regular events is just $12 for ages 11 and older. Children 10 years of age and younger are admitted for free. Please visit www.mountainspeedway.com for the news and up to date information regarding the historic speedway.
