After Mother Nature forced a postponement of the May 11th Stock Car show, she granted a perfect weather night for racing this past Saturday. On the racing card were the Sportsman, Street Stocks, 4 Cylinders, and TQ Midgets.

The night’s action started out with ¼ mile inner oval racing with the After Hours Imaging TQ Midgets. Andy Jankowiak and Shawn Nye brought the field to the green but the action was short lived as a multi-car accident in turn four brought out the red flag and the end of the race for some competitors. When the field was brought back to the green flag, Andy Nye wasted no time in grabbing the lead. By lap 10 and the halfway point of the feature Nye had built a considerable lead over the rest of the field and led Erick Musto, Timex Morgan, Patrick Emerling, and Jon Reid. While Nye was safely in the lead, a fierce battle for second on back was being waged as Morgan applied heavy pressure on Musto for second and Emerling and Reid battled for fourth. With just about five laps to go, Morgan finally cleared Musto for second and set off for the leader. However, Nye had built such a lead over the field, Morgan had no chance of catching him in the laps that remained. Nye crossed the finish line first and captured the checkered flag.

The inner oval action continued with the 4 Cylinders, with Chris Bugenhagen, Derrick Brant, Christine Hanel, and Peter Koschuk leading the field to the initial start. At the drop of the green, Brant jumped out to the lead but was soon passed by Koschuk who grabbed the top spot. On the move though was Tom LaLomia Jr., who had moved into third after starting seventh by lap five. Just two laps later LaLomia passed by Brant for second and set his sights for the leader. At the halfway point Koschuk still led LaLomia, Bobby Woch, Brant, and Al Pisecki. However, LaLomia was cutting down on Koschuk’s lead as every lap clicked off while Woch, Piasecki, and Jayme Thompson held steady in third through fifth place. With less than seven laps to go, LaLomia had caught Koschuk and after working both the inside and outside line, finally passed the leader low in turn one for the lead. Koschuk, however, would not give the top spot up easily and fought back. LaLomia held onto the lead and with two to go, used a lap car to gain some room on Koschuk. LaLomia was the first car to cross the finish line but was penalized two spots by race officials for rough riding. Koschuk was awarded the win and Woch finished second.

The action then switched to the outer 5/8th mile oval as the Street Stocks took to the track for their 25 lap feature event. Mike Dalfonso Jr. and Dennis Londos led the field to the start of the race and Dalfonso immediately grabbed the top spot. Dalfonso soon got stuck on the outside however and Keith Flanigan grabbed the lead on lap three. Soon the field with single file with Flanigan, TJ Cochrane, Matt Druar, and Nate Straus running nose to tail up front. Soon Cochrane was shuffled back on the outside as Druar and Straus slotted into second and third. Flanigan ceded the top spot to Druar on lap 12 as he pushed high coming out of turn 4 and Druar got by him on the low side. The first yellow flag of the race appeared soon after as Flanigan and Straus got together in turn two, with both cars spinning. The double file restart has Druar, Jake Lyon, Cochrane, Londos, and Joe Haley up front. The restart didn’t go as planned however as Lyon spun in front of the field, causing damage to multiple cars. On the next restart Druar once again led the field to the green and at the halfway point shortly after, Druar led Cochrane, Haley, Londos, Straus, and Flanigan. As the laps clicked off the field started to spread out a bit, with Druar, Cochrane, and Haley each a few car lengths apart up front. However, with five to go the action heated up, with Lyon moving up through the field to challenge Haley for third while Flanigan and Straus battled hard behind them. Druar, however, had a comfortable lead up front and at the end of the 25 laps, was the car in Victory Lane .

The final race of the night was the 35 lap main event for the Sportsman division. Tommy Catalano, Kevin Miller, Frank Batista Jr., and Billy Burd started up front and at the drop of the green, T. Catalano grabbed the top spot. Racing was short lived however as Sherri Hogan brought out the yellow flag on lap three for her solo spin. The double file restart had T. Catalano, Miller, Burd, Batista, and Tom MacLeod in the front few rows but contact between MacLeod and Batista sent both cars spinning on the restart. During the yellow flag, Batista was sent tail for the contact and another double file restart was called for. T. Catalano, Miller, and Burd restarted up front but this time it was the Burd car that spun, bringing out another yellow flag. With just three laps completed, the field tried yet again to go green with T. Catalano, Miller, Dave Catalano, Andy Jankowiak, and Mark Pennell up front. The field finally began putting some green flag laps in the books and T. Catalano stayed out front. Lap 12 saw the re-emergence of the yellow flag for Pennell and Batista spinning on their own. After the track was checked for any fluid the racing resumed with T. Catalano, D. Catalano, Jankowiak, MacLeod, and Burd up front. And again, the yellow was displayed as D. Catalano spun. With hardly any laps in, the field was restarted single file in an effort to get some green flag laps completed. T. Catalano again started up front but was immediately hounded by Jankowiak for the lead. Just as the race was approaching halfway, Jankowiak passed T. Catalano for the top spot. T. Catalano now had MacLeod and Burd on his bumper and MacLeod soon made the pass low for second. Burd and T. Catalano battled side by side for a few laps for third before Burd finally cleared him for the spot. The race stayed clean and green for it’s remainder and Jankowiak held onto his lead over MacLeod to capture his second win of the season at EBRP.
