Looking at the weather predictions for Saturday at Bowman Gray Stadium was a roller coaster ride. But it was nothing prepared to the ups and downs on the track
once the racing got started.

Saturday night was a 100-lap race for the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series – and like all Modified 100-lappers, the entire field drew for starting position. Brad Robbins of Winston-Salem drew the pole for his
starting spot, with Robert Jeffreys of Winston-Salem drawing the outside front row.

When Jeffreys ran into some mechanical issues and was unable to start, Burt Myers of Walnut Cove was moved up to starting on the outside front row. Myers shot out into the lead as the green flag waved
and held on to the top spot for the remainder of the race – although it was far from easy.

Myers defended his lead for eight double-file restarts, holding on against the outside row challenges from John Smith of Mount Airy and Danny Bohn of Mooresville.

“If the car will keep running like it is, then I think we’re going to get a lot of victories this year,” said Burt Myers about his #1 machine on Saturday. “We were fortunate enough to start up front – but we had
an awesome car and that makes my job a lot easier.”

Being up front was especially helpful when Myers avoided a pileup that took out nearly half of the field. Tight double-file racing between Brad Robbins and Bobby Shefield of Mooresville led to the entire
outside row crashing into each other’s bumpers and into the guard rail on the backstretch. The #68 car of Robbie Brewer of Winston-Salem flipped upside-down, several cars were mangled, but all drivers
were unhurt.

Avoiding the pileup is what allowed Danny Bohn to make his way up through the field from a 19th place start, eventually challenging Burt Myers for the lead. It was the first week that Bohn piloted a new
ride: the #53 Modified owned by former driver Melvin “Puddin’” Swisher.

“The car was surprisingly good,” said Bohn. “I was hoping the grip would stick a little better so I could get a nose on Burt. But 19th to 2nd, car in one piece, in a new car – we’ll take it for sure.”

“I knew Danny was going to give me a hard time. That’s a good car and he’s a heck of a driver,” said Burt Myers. “I tried to ride and save some stuff, but I couldn’t because Danny was pushing me. I would
pick the pace up and look up and Danny was still there – so I had to just keep the pace faster than what I really wanted. But the car was so good it just stayed there all night long.”

Myers grabbed the checkered for the 100-lapper with Bohn taking second. John Smith finished in third, while Michael Clifton of Walkertown finished fourth.

Doug Wall won the annual Street Stock 50 – the longest race of the year for the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series. “We have worked so hard on this car for this race. The 50-lapper is the thing that I
concentrate the most on every year,” said Wall.

Whitney Clifton of Walkertown was on Wall’s rear bumper, but the skies opened up and the race was ended early due to deteriorating track conditions. Clifton finished second, with Billy Gregg of Lexington
coming in third.

In the Classic Muscle Sportsman Series, Noah Triplett grabbed the checkered in the first 20-lapper after bumping Bryant Robertson of Lexington out of the way. Barry Edwards of Pinnacle and David Adams
of Yadkinville finished second and third.

In the Summer Shootout Series, Shane Southard won the first 15-lap race.

The second Sportsman race and second Stadium Stock race were unable to get started due to the late night rain storm.
