After two straight rainouts and threatening weather on Saturday evening, Jason Treat was one of the stock car drivers who was glad that Wall Stadium struggled against drizzle and a rain delay to get the racing card completed. The Jackson resident became the third different driver in as many races to win a Modified stock car main event this season.

Treat used the handicap system to his advantage as he jumped to the lead from the front row. Although he led the entire way, he was forced to fight off the challenges of Jackson’s Chris Lane, Holmdel’s Andrew Krause and Brick’s Shawna Ingraham. With just a handful of cautions for minor incidents late in the 40-lap race, it was a high speed affair most of the way.

Treat was chased across the line by Krause, Freehold’s Chas Okerson, Ingraham and Steven Reed of Freehold.

“The car was great early in the race, but the set up went away near the end,” Treat said. “I have to thank Andrew (Krause) for driving me like a gentleman. I knew it was going to be checker or the wrecker tonight.”

The Factory Stocks were in the spotlight Saturday with twin 20-lap main events and the Mongeau family was the star of the show. In the first 20-lapper Joe Mongeau of Brick raced to his second win of the year over his nephew Shanon Mongeau of Farmingdale, Brick’s Ronnie Mullen, Scott Riggleman of Manchester and John Bowers of Pt. Pleasant.

In the nightcap Shanon Mongeau returned for the win over lady racer Tiffany Olejnik of Wall, Joe Mongeau, Riggleman and Mullen.

In the 4 Cylinder division 25-lapper, Mike Wall and James Meyers battled for the lead right to the final turn. When they tangled and spun while headed to the finish line Brien Crosby of Wall slipped past to take the win. Mike Dunn of Trenton was second, while Beachwood’s Todd Pilla and Mike Dorrer and
Cole Ormsbee, both of Wall, were fourth and fifth.

Robert French of Howell raced to his second win of the year in the 25-lapper for the Legend Cars, taking the lead from Trevor Alspach of Willingboro late in the contest. Derek Hopkinson of Toms River, Edison’s Brian Spencer and Zack Alspach of Willingboro wrapped up the top five.

Ryan Tidman took over the lead from runner-up Buddy Sload to win the 25-lap race for the touring TQ Midgets. Frank Fischer, Brett Conklin and Mike Tidaback were third through fifth.

Stock car racing returns to Wall Stadium this Saturday night June 1 with four divisions in action on 50’s Night/Scout Night. Special events and prizes for Scout Night will also be offered as Scouts in uniform will be admitted free. Coupes and coaches from the golden years of stock car racing, the 1950’s, will also be on display presented by the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club.

While the 4 Cylinder cars are slated for twin features, the Modifieds, Sportsman, Limited Late Models and the Sunday Series Micro Stocks will also see main event action. The Factory Stocks and the Legend Cars will have the night off.

Pit gates will open at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday; with practice starting at 3:30 p.m. Grandstands will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first qualifying event takes the green flag at 6:00 p.m. Main events are scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
