Saturday night at Bowman Gray Stadium showed that luck at the Madhouse can turn around quickly.

Last week, Jason Myers of Walnut Cove was involved in a massive pileup that left his car damaged and gave him a 17th place finish. But this week, things changed: Myers qualified on the pole and led
every lap to take the checkered flag for the first Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series 25-lapper.

Defending Champion Tim Brown of Rural Hall started right beside Myers on the outside front row, putting Myers to the test on the initial start. But the #4 car of Myers was able to hold the inside lane and
retain the lead.

“I knew Tim had a heck of a race car. But I knew that if I could beat him on the start, I had a pretty good idea we could beat him in the race. I knew Tim wouldn’t do me dirty,” said Myers.

After falling in behind Myers, Brown began delivering a few nudges to the rear bumper of Myers. Brown in turn was being pressured from behind by Jason’s brother, Burt Myers.

Mechanical issues struck for Brown, and he began to fall back. That allowed older brother Burt to move up and nudge Jason Myers – and Burt didn’t hold back from trying to grab the win for himself.

Jason Myers went on to take the victory with Burt Myers finishing in second. Joseph Brown of Winston-Salem brought home third.
Luck also changed for John Smith of Mount Airy. He spun in the first race and finished 12th, but a lucky “Madhouse Scramble” draw put him in third for the start of the second race. After a few mechanical
tweaks between races, Smith was hard to beat as he passed by Steven Truell of Winston-Salem and Kevin Neal of Walkertown to grab the checkered.

“We were way too loose the first race - and I messed up and spun it out,” said Smith. “They made some changes in between races that made it really good. I told them just tighten her up as much as you
can.”

Chris Fleming of Mount Airy finished behind him in second, with Steven Truell taking third.

Saturday was also the Whelen Sportsman 100 – the longest race of the season for the Classic Muscle Sportsman Series. With the Midway Trailer Rental Double-File Restart Rule, a novel element of strategy
was at work during each of the nine restarts.

Derek Stoltz of Walkertown, Cale Gale of Mobile, AL, and Mack Little of Mocksville all took their turn at trying to unseat pole-starter Taylor Branch of Lewisville from the lead. But it was Noah Triplett of Tyro
who claimed the lead, helped by the fortunate timing of a caution flag. Even though Triplett didn’t complete his pass of Branch, the caution came out as Triplett was a nose ahead of him – putting Triplett at
the front for the next restart.

Branch unsuccessfully tried to reclaim the top spot through a few outside-row restarts. But on the final laps of the race, Branch began giving some stiff bumps to the rear of Triplett. He managed to get to
the inside of Triplett as they both dashed towards the checkered flag in a photo finish. Once again, Triplett was ahead by just a nose.

“I think that’s the most fun I’ve ever had driving a racecar,” said Triplett. “That was good hard racing there that whole time.”

Branch finished second by a few inches, with Mack Little claiming third.

Although Billy Gregg of Lexington took the checkered flag for the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series, he failed post-race technical inspection. John Holleman of Winston-Salem was declared the winner.

Chuck Wall of Lexington and Jason Keaton of Mocksville each brought home a win in the Summer Shootout Stadium Stock Series.
