The popular winged warriors of the American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association (ATQMRA) will be taking part in the weekly stock car action this coming Saturday, June 1 at Lehighton’s Mahoning Valley Speedway.
The paved quarter mile oval has become a favorite stop for the ATQMRA as the high speed open cockpit cars are always thrilling to watch as they circulate around the Mahoning pavement in nine seconds or less while executing intense side-by-side action.
In the first appearance of the year on April 20, Matt Janisch and defending club champion and current point leader Ryan Tidman battled right down to the wire. They reached speeds of nearly 100-mph while zipping in and out of traffic with Janisch taking the victory with a late race pass.
Much of the same can be expected this week. Also, the TQ stars will be looking to reset the current track record of 8.825-seconds at 101.983 mph set last September by Matt Roselli.
The ATQMRA, now in their 57th season, will join Mahoning’s regular track classes of Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods, Pro 4s and Hobby Stocks which will be running regular feature events.
Eric Beers is on a hot streak as he won his fourth Modified feature in six 2013 starts and also leads the points for the first time since 1992. Mike Sweeney won his first Late Model feature of the season last Saturday and in doing so moved into the division point lead. Starting this week the Street Stocks will now run 30 laps for a regular feature thanks to the great car counts that have been coming out each week.
Jeff Parker returned to Victory Lane in the Dirt Mods for the first time in three years and with that jumped atop the standings. 13-year old Kyle Strohl heads up the Pro 4s while Jeff Biegley is looking to notch another win with the Hobby Stocks.
Pit gates open at noon. There will be early paid practice from 12:30 to 3:00 at $25.00 per car. Regular warm-ups will be held from 4:00 – 5:00. Adult general admission is $12. $2.00 off for students, seniors 65 + and active military, must have ID. Children 10 and under are free.

Coming up in two weeks on Saturday night, June 8, it will be Fan Appreciation Night at Mahoning Valley. Adult general admission is just $8 and during intermission will be a camera and autograph session to be held on the track. The band A.D.D. will also be performing.
