With double points on the line and a full moon in the sky last Saturday, the action heated up on the historic quarter mile at Bowman Gray Stadium.

Jason Myers of Walnut Cove grabbed the checkered flag in the first race for the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series. Myers had previously been up to a second place ranking in the points but fell back after
a collision on May 18.

After claiming victory in the first 25-lapper, Myers’s strategy was just to play it conservatively during the second race. “In the second race, you just ride and hope you don’t crash,” said Myers. “The way
the other cars looked, it was best that we just rode it out. You don’t want to put yourself in that situation. You can gain two, four, six points – but you could lose twenty. And it’s just not worth it on a Double
Points Night.”

Myers sailed smoothly into a 13th place finish in the second race, allowing him to rebound up to fourth in the points standings.

Brother Burt Myers of Walnut Cove finished right on Jason’s rear bumper in the first race and added to that a 10th place finish in the second race, growing his points lead.

Tim Brown of Rural Hall, who was threatening to take the race lead away from Jason Myers on Saturday, began experiencing some mechanical issues that handicapped him later in the race. Although the
defending champion started to fall back through the field, he skillfully held on to every position possible. Brown stays third in the points.

John Smith of Mount Airy entered the event ranked second on the points ladder, but it looked like disaster would characterize his Double Points Night. Smith spun in the first race and was involved in a
collision. He was able to still race his way to a 12th place finish.

But a lucky draw in the O’Reilly Auto Parts “Madhouse Scramble” sent Smith up to third for the start of the second 25-lapper. After some quick mechanical changes in between races, he plowed through
the field to grab the checkered.

“It could’ve been real bad. This place is like playing Russian Roulette,” said Smith about the potential points impact of his wreck. “But we got lucky and that’s just the way it goes - and thankfully it
worked out tonight.”
Smith held on to his second place points ranking, only eight points behind Burt Myers.

In the Classic Muscle Sportsman Series, Noah Triplett of Tyro won the annual Whelen Sportsman 100. Taylor Branch of Lewisville finished second in a photo finish. With double points at stake, Branch
rockets up from 13th to 9th in the points. Triplett leaps from ninth into the points lead.

Moving up from fifth to tie Triplett for the points lead is Kenny Bost of Lexington. Mack Little of Winston-Salem moves into third.

John Holleman of Winston-Salem was declared the winner of the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock race after Billy Gregg of Lexington was disqualified in post-race technical inspection. Holleman moves
from 11th to 6th in the points. David Creed of Mount Airy finished second on Saturday to strengthen his points lead.

In the Summer Shootout Stadium Stock Series, Jason Keaton of Mocksville won – boosting him into the points lead. Derek Taylor of Yadkinville moves up to tie Keaton for the lead.

This weekend is one you won’t want to miss at Bowman Gray Stadium – it’s a two-day show with racing on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the Modifieds duke it out in the G-OIL 100, plus racing for all other divisions. And adult admission is only eight dollars.

On Saturday, it’s the best racing for the absolute best price – it’s a $2 Ladies’ Night. Women get in for only two bucks to see the NASCAR Hall of Fame 150 for the K&N Pro Series East plus another 100-
lapper for the Modifieds.

Gates open at 6:00 for practice and the first race begins at 8:00 PM – this Friday night and Saturday night. Ticket prices, directions, and more information can be found online at www.bowmangrayracing.com
