As we near the halfway point in the season at Bowman Gray Stadium, the points races are beginning to take shape – and every lap has the potential to be a
deciding point in the championship.

The first lap for the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series was one such lap as second-place qualifier Jason Myers of Walnut Cove tangled with pole-sitter Tim Brown of Rural Hall. They collided as they
fought for the lead in turn one, and then Myers delivered a stiff shot to Brown in turn three to shake him out of the lead.

“It wasn’t payback,” said Myers about the bump in the third turn. “But I’m not going to let somebody run over me and just finish behind them.”

Brown tried to reclaim the top spot but was unsuccessful. “I was trying to give him a shot like he did to me,” said Brown. “But his car was tight and he was slowing down – and I couldn’t hit him hard
enough.”

Myers took the checkered for the first race and finished seventh in the second race, keeping his fourth place ranking in the points. Brown grabbed second in the first race and fifth in the second race,
maintaining his third place spot on the points ladder.

But while the crowd was focused on the battle going on for the checkered flag, there was a subtle fight in the middle of the field as the points leaders struggled for every position possible.

Burt Myers of Walnut Cove entered the event tied for the points lead with John Smith of Mount Airy. Myers came in fourth and third, giving him a strong points night and moving him into a solid lead.

John Smith was unable to recover from his qualifying lap: he qualified ninth fastest for the first race and held steady for a ninth place finish.
His hopes for a good points night would now rest with the “Madhouse Scramble” inversion draw to determine the starting lineup for the second race. Smith had an 80% chance of starting ahead of Burt
Myers, Jason Myers, and Tim Brown in the second race.

But unfortunately for Smith, the draw was low enough that he wasn’t included in the inversion – meaning that he started behind all of his points rivals instead. Smith worked his way up to a sixth place finish,
but the damage was done. He slipped out of the tie for the points lead down to second.

In the Classic Muscle Sportsman Series, Mack Little of Kernersville powered forward to grab the checkered for the first 20-lapper, maintaining his points lead. Zack Clifton of Walkertown finished fourth in
both races to take over second in the points rankings, slipping by Noah Triplett of Tyro who falls down to third.

Doug Wall of holds on to the top spot on the points ladder for the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series. David Creed of Mount Airy moves into second in the points after winning on Saturday – an
impressive ranking considering he didn’t even compete on May 31 due to mechanical problems.

In the Summer Shootout Stadium Stock Series, Jason Keaton of Mocksville secures the points lead, while Chuck Wall of Lexington moves up to a strong second place ranking.
The points battles will heat up even more this Saturda
y – it’s a Modified 100-lapper. The Modifieds have a full-field draw for position, and the Midway Trailer Rental “Double File” Restart Rule will be in
effect. Plus there will also be racing for the Sportsman, Street Stock, and Stadium Stock Divisions.

And you can see all the action for the best price in town – it’s $2 Ladies’ Night. All women are admitted for just two bucks to see the family-friendly entertainment that the Madhouse is known for.

Gates open at 6:00 for practice and the first race begins at 8:00 PM – this Friday night and Saturday night. Ticket prices, directions, and more information can be found online at www.bowmangrayracing.com
