Defending Champion Tim Brown of Rural Hall was open on Saturday about his disappointment with his 2013 performance.

Entering Saturday’s race, Brown had only one victory in his column – while Burt Myers of Walnut Cove had tallied four, and Jason Myers of Walnut Cove and John Smith of Mount Airy had two wins each.

For much of the season Brown has hovered around third in the points for the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series - not out of reach of taking his 10th championship but not where he’d like to be either.

But perhaps the tide has turned for Brown: he grabbed the checkered in Saturday’s first 25-lapper. “We can try to get the monkey off our back now and go get these guys,” said Brown.

The victory was especially impressive considering what an endurance contest it was for Brown: he’s racing with a broken ankle. He declined to have a cast since that would prevent him from racing, so
pain tolerance and dedication to his sport are fueling his performance more than anything.

The “Madhouse Scramble” inversion for the second race included Tim Brown as well as the top points contenders – minimizing Brown’s points gains from his victory. He moves just one point closer to
Myers.

Burt Myers finished third and eighth, keeping him in the points lead. John Smith maintains his second place standing with two sixth place finishes.

In the Classic Muscle Sportsman Series, Mack Little of Kernersville finished third and eighth to stay on top of the points ladder. Zack Clifton of Walkertown turned in a second and seventh place finish to
move closer to the points lead. Clifton is currently ranked second, only eight points behind Little.

Doug Wall of Pfafftown continues to evade bad luck, maintaining his points lead in the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series. But John Holleman of Winston-Salem finished second for the second
week in a row, slowly but steadily moving him closer to passing Wall.

In the Summer Shootout Stadium Stock Series, Jason Keaton of Mocksville dominated on Saturday – grabbing the checkered flag and extending his points lead. His chief points rival, Chuck Wall of
Lexington, finished eighth, losing a little ground to Keaton in the points.

This Saturday is the last opportunity for competitors to grab a few points before the Stadium breaks to honor our nation over the Fourth of July weekend. It will be Winston-Salem Journal night – with
twin 25s for the Modifieds and a 60-lap race for the Sportsman cars utilizing the double-file restart rule. The Street Stock Series races in a 20-lapper with twin 15s for the Stadium Stock Division.

Gates open at 6:00 for practice and the first race begins at 8:00 PM – this Friday night and Saturday night. Ticket prices, directions, and more information can be found online at
