The Dirt Mods of Mahoning Valley Speedway are a diverse and uniquely talented group of drivers. They must wheel a big brute dirt Modified around a tight, circular paved quarter mile oval and the results are always an exciting feature for the fans. To watch these cars, which must run on dirt tires also, take to the pavement, keeps everyone on the edge of their seats.

Now track promoter Floyd Santee is giving the class their own championship race as a way of saying thanks for all the great racing they have been providing.

This coming Saturday evening, June 29, will be a special 40-lap, $1000-to-win main for the Dirt Mod Championship with $100 to take the green. And, if any non-Mahoning dirt mod racer comes in and can win the feature an additional $250 will be awarded which has been posted by S & D Bodyline proprietor Don Biegley.

Furthermore, Warren Pallet, Co., of Bloomsbury, NJ, the sponsor of Mahoning Dirt Mod racer Ray Deemer, has added $250 to the purse. Time trials will set the grid.

This year has proved to be one of the closest point battles since the inception of the division. There has been seven different winners over the first ten weeks, making them on pace for a record for most winners in a single season. The mark is 8 which occurred in 2010.

The point lead has also been flipping back and forth. With his third win of the year last Saturday night, Mike Stofflet has regained the top spot in the standings.

“This is a great class and whenever you see a dozen-plus cars in a feature the racing is fantastic,” said Santee. “We have seen this division hold steady since it started four years ago. This is year five with our Dirt Mods and it has come to be one of the best groups yet. The fans love this class and they tell me every week. It’s only right to give back to them. They deserve this.

“We are offering a good payout for this race plus with the added money for any outsider it should prove to be a great show.”

Along with the 40 lap Dirt Mod Championship race will be regular features for the Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Pro4s and Hobby Stocks plus the touring Micro Stock Racing Series will be on hand. Kids Big Wheel races will take place during intermission.

Adult general admission is $12. $2.00 off for students, seniors 65 + and active military, must have ID. Children 10 and under are free.

Pit gates open at noon. There will be early paid practice from 12:30 to 3:00 at $25.00 per car. Regular warm-ups will be held from 4:00 – 5:00. Racing begins at 6:00.

In two weeks, July 6, the Late Models will race for 50 laps and a $1000 first place prize in the second Annual George Ramos, Jr., Memorial.
The Fireworks show that was originally slated for June 29 has been rescheduled to take place on July 13.
