Saturday, Sept 14 - Tour Night #2 - Hoping to make it as big as the one in June. Looking to reward all Legend and Blunderbust drivers by way of lap sponsors ( but with a twist) - Lap money will be pooled together and spread out thru the field, so hopefully each team goes home with extra money. 30 laps in each race will be sold at $30 per lap. If you can only afford 10, thats great! We'll resell lap for the remaining $20. Hoping that EVERY team goes home with at least $75 total payout. Modifieds- we've already sold laps, but will attempt to sell the 200 again, but this time, this lap money ONLY goes to a team that calls Riverhead home!. Mods will be $10 per lap. Of course, always looking for people who want to sponsor a Modified for the night for $300. Name on car = Priceless! 2 months to do all this, and it may not be possible, but might as well try!!! Sara Sylvester will be helping me with lap money!

When the Whelen Modified Tour comes to Riverhead, many of the cars will be getting $300 sponsorships. Thanks to the money raised by selling the SBM tshirts, one lucky car will have the "Friends of Kevin Rice" decal. We all appreciate what Kevin has done for the modifieds, and we couldn't be happier to announce that this $300 will be going to the Mike Stefanik #22. How fitting for Stefanik to get this money, because Mike has long been a supporter of the SBM races. Also, this year, the 22 team supported the SBM race and didn't have the success they are known for. So what better way for us to thank both Kevin and the #22 team for their support of the SBM 125 and the Riverhead race as well.

26 of the modifieds that show on Sept 14 will be given $300, based on the pledges so far. Still looking for other people who can donate $300 to sponsor a car, and get your name on the modified for the night.

Over $1600 pledged and about 40 laps still to sell at $10 a lap - to go to the "Riverhead guy" who is supporting this race. The money will go to the top Riverhead guy on each lap that is sponsored.

Featured sponsor of the day: JW Buckley. Also known as JWfor8x here on the ChromeHorn - JW is retired and as he tells me - doesn't really have the money to do this... But his passion for the modifieds (and the Brunnhoelzls in particular) has made him come on board once again to sponsor a modified for the upcoming Tour race. In 2012, JW sponsored the 0 car of Ralph Solhem / Eddie Brunnhoelzl. While he's still hoping that his name will be on a Brunnhoelzl car for the Sept 14 race, he is also ready to sponsor John Beatty , as he did back in the June race. Rob, who has his own "Riverhead" each year up at Holland Speedway, where he hands out lots of extra money to the ROC drivers. The Perrys have sponsored a number of cars the last few years at the Riverhead Tour races. Welcome on board Art! He will be sponsoring the number 3 driven by Teddy Christopher on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Riverhead Raceway!

Racing has always been a part of Art's life - his dad crewed on the modifieds back in the 1950s, and Art did the same on some Figure 8 cars at Islip. Art misses the tracks of old, Riverside Park, Shangri La, and Flemington, but has fond memories of TC winning at both Nazareth and also at Jennerstown.

After the June Whelen Modified Tour race at Riverhead, I figured there was no way, we could even come close to matching what was done back then. Yes, we had the $2710 in lap money already collected... but beyond that - I wasn't expecting much .

In the end, the $13,690 is actually $580 MORE than what we did back in June.
