Races aren’t necessarily won on the last lap. For Burt Myers of Walnut Cove, the Saturday, June 29 race was won during morning practice sessions.

“I hate coming over here on Saturday mornings. We race so often that on Saturday morning we kind of want some down time to keep cool and get plenty of fluids in you,” said Myers after his June 29
victory. “But we came over here and adjusted this morning and I think that’s what paid off for us.”

On June 29, the first race for the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series had the starting lineup set strictly by qualifying, so those crucial time trial laps were key to performing well. Myers turned the fastest
lap – a feat that he credits to all the setup work done during the day’s practice sessions.

“The track was a little bit touchy this week, so the adjustments we made over here this morning ran over into this afternoon and that put us on the pole,” said Myers. “I’ve never seen the track change
as much as it has this year from week to week.”

“One setup will work one week, and it won’t work the next,” said Myers. “You have to use your two short practices in the evening to try and get dialed in – so if you can take some of that morning
practice and get close, you’re closer whenever Saturday afternoon practice comes around.”

But while Myers reveled in the win on June 29, the points race is starting to be something that he’s considering week to week. With the season clicking by, Myers continues to rack up poles and victories
– three poles and five wins in all – putting him in the current points lead.

“We’re halfway about now. It’s great to be the points leader,” said Myers. “I’ve told you how hard we’ve been working to try and get our car to sit on the pole going out first. We found a couple things.

That doesn’t mean it’s going to work next week. But it sure did this week.”

Myers has a 20-point lead in the Modifieds, although John Smith of Mount Airy continues to whittle away at the points gap. Defending Champion Tim Brown of Rural Hall is still within striking distance
in third.
In the Classic Muscle Sportsman Series, Mack Little of Kernersville continues to hold on to the points lead. But Zack Clifton of Walkertown is moving closer and closer to Little, gaining a few points in
last event to reduce Little’s lead down to a scant six points.

John Holleman of Winston-Salem flew through the field to hang on to second in the points for the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series. Doug Wall of Pfafftown sails ahead at the top of the pack,
though – 32 points ahead of Holleman.

In the Summer Shootout Stadium Stock Series, disaster struck in last event for Jason Keaton of Mocksville. Involvement in a wreck relegated him to a 16th place finish, taking him out of the points lead.

Chuck Wall of Lexington capitalizes on the opportunity, finishing fourth and leaping onto the top of the points ladder.

This Saturday, the points race comes to a boiling point with O’Reilly Auto Parts $2 Ladies’ Night. Women are admitted for just two dollars to see the O’Reilly Auto Parts 100 for the Modifieds, plus
racing for the Sportsman, Street Stock, and Stadium Stock Divisions. And each race is worth double the normal points.

Gates open at 6:00 for practice and the first race begins at 8:00 PM – this Friday night and Saturday night. Ticket prices, directions, and more information can be found online at
