Fresh off his win in the 63rd Sunoco Race of Champions, Matt Hirschman of Northampton will now focus on a return to Mahoning Valley Speedway for round three of the Mahoning Modified Madness Series (MMMS) this coming Saturday evening, July 27.

It will be Baltimore Life Insurance Night at the track and there will be a host of giveaways during the evening. Race time is at 6:00 p.m.
The main event will consist to twin 50 lap features paying $1800 to win each with $175 to take the green. Qualifying heats with a redraw will be used to set the starting grid in race one. An invert with a yet to be determined number of cars will set the starting line-up for the second 50.

Hirschman will find himself in familiar tough company as Eric Beers leads the Mahoning regulars and is also the MMMS point leader thanks to his wins on May 4, a 100 lapper and then twice taking the checkers during the Triple 25s on June 22.

Hirschman was also a winner on June 22 and sits second in MMMS points. 2012 MMMS champion Zane Zeiner is third in points with John Markovic and Nevin George fourth and fifth respectively.

The Mahoning Modified Madness Series carries a $6000 purse to be divided amongst the top overall point finishers in the special five race series. The champ will earn $2000 with $1500 to the runner-up, $1000 for 3rd, $700 for 4th, $500 for 5th and $300 to 6th plus all regular monies being paid for each night of racing in those respective shows.

Beers won his seventh Modified feature of the season two weeks ago and is currently tops in regular points. That win tied a record for most wins in a single season. Markovic (1994) and John Bennett (2009) are tied with Beers.

Although Beers and Hirschman won the first two MMMS events, there is always a strong contingent that will be looking to capture first place laurels including the likes of Zeiner, Markovic, George, Roger Coss, Chip Santee, Earl Paules, and Kevin Rex, Jr., to mention just a few.
“Outsiders,” those non-Mahoning regulars, always look to these events to come in and test their skills against the tough-as-nails Modified standouts and quickly realize the skill and guts it takes to compete at the paved quarter mile Lehighton oval.

The remaining MMMS shows will be on October 5, a 100-lap, $3000-to-win race. Then the season finale being the second annual Octoberfast 2013 on October 27 which will be a distance of 130 laps and pay $5000 to win. If any driver who is in the top 15 in regular track points then first place for that race will be $6000.

This Saturday’s racing action gets underway at 6:00 p.m. Grandstands gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Adult general admission is $20.

There will be early paid practice from 12:30 to 3:00 at $25.00 per car. Regular warm-ups will be held from 4:00 – 5:00.

Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods, Pro 4s and Hobby Stocks are also on the card.
