With four victories and three poles so far in 2013, Jason Myers of Walnut Cove is in the middle of his best season ever in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified
Series at Bowman Gray Stadium. And on Saturday, he continued to whittle away at brother Burt Myers’s points lead.
Jason qualified in third and drew sixth when the top six redrew for starting position. Unfortunately, Jason Myers began to fall back as he navigated his way through multiple double-file
restarts. “Traffic just messed us up in the first race,” said Myers.
With the O’Reilly Auto Parts “Madhouse Scramble” setting the field for the second 50-lapper, Myers’s goal was to position himself for a good start in the second race. “We were fortunate
enough to get back in the top eight so we could get back in the draw,” said Myers.
The “Madhouse Scramble” draw was indeed an eight, placing Myers, who finished 7th, on the outside pole for the start of the second race. Myers then went on to take the checkered flag,
boosting him in the points totals.
“We’ve just had an awesome car all year. You really get to show how fast you are when you get out front and the other faster cars behind you are running with you,” said Myers.
Burt Myers finished second and seventh, keeping him in the points lead but not giving him the total points gains that Jason Myers and John Smith of Mount Airy enjoyed. Smith had a
particularly strong performance, finishing third and second.
The feat moves Smith up to tie Jason Myers for the second spot on the points ladder. However, Jason Myers and Smith still trail Burt Myers by 27 points with time running out in the 2013
season.
In the Classic Muscle Sportsman Series, Mack Little of Kernersville turns in a strong fifth place finish in Saturday’s 40-lap Sportsman race with the Midway Trailer Rental Double-File Restart
Rule.
But Zack Clifton of Walkertown was caught up in some wreckage, dropping him back to a 12th place finish – and damaging him in the points battle. Clifton hangs on to his second place
ranking but loses a lot of ground to Little.
A similar situation played out in the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series. John Holleman of Winston-Salem was bumped out of the way by Billy Gregg of Lexington while they raced.
Holleman was able to salvage an eighth place finish but fell further behind points leader Doug Wall of Pfafftown.
In the Summer Shootout Stadium Stock Series, Chuck Wall of Lewisville finished second to maintain his top ranking in the points. Jason Keaton of Mocksville stays in second.
There’s not much time left in the 2013 season, and the championships will soon be decided. The races for the titles continue this Saturday night with Whelen Engineering Night. There will be
twin 25s for the Modifieds plus racing for the Sportsman, Street Stock, and Stadium Stock Divisions. And the night will end with the always wild 109 U-Pull-It Chain Race!
