Annual Autograph and Camera night set the stage Saturday night for the racers and fans at Mountain Speedway. In a caution-laced Modified main event, Jason Hearne of New Egypt, NJ took the race lead on lap six and held off his fellow competitors over the duration of the show to take his first Mountain Modified victory. Charlie Castiglione has come close to victory lane in Street Stock competition and finally sealed the deal, when the Freeland native took the checkers for his fist victory. Running a limited schedule this season, Rich Paciotti of Kunkletown grabbed his second Factory Stock win of the season and John Banashefski of Scranton overtook Scott Adams and drove off with his first Four Cylinder win. Mark Levy took the Dirt Modified checkers and Chris Burge of Mountaintop never relinquished the lead and scored his fifth Street Stock feature of the year in the event that was rescheduled from July 27.

Amber Fortin started form the pole position in the 30-lap Modified main event. She led the first circuit over Chris Young, Dan Speeney, John Fortin, Sr. and Jason Hearne, but Young grabbed the top spot after a lap went into the books.

The first of many yellow flags waved on lap three when Speeney and Hearne tangled in turn four. Green flag racing resumed one lap later, Fortin, Sr., who had climbed to second, turned Young in turn one. DeFebo and A. Fortin were also collected and the turn of events gave the lead to John Fortin, Jr. Junior’s lead however was short-lived, as he was overtaken by Wayne Szerencsits following the restart. Two laps later the yellow waved once more when Fortin, Jr. got into Szerencsits and the pair spun in turn four.

When green flag racing resumed on lap six, Hearne held the top spot with Speeney, DeFebo, Young and Allen Creveling in tow. DeFebo climbed to second following the restart and raced side by side with Hearne, who was determined not to settle for second.

With 11 laps remaining, Young, who ran third at the time, got into DeFebo in turn four. The pair restarted from the rear of the field and Fortin, Sr. climbed to second.

Hearne continued to lead following the restart but the action slowed with four laps remaining when Young got out of shape coming out of turn four and made heavy contact with the front stretch wall. Luckily, he was not seriously injured.

With the green back out, Hearne held off Fortin, Sr., DeFebo, Speeney and Fortin, Jr. to notch his first full blown Modified victory at the speedway. He dedicated the win to his former teammate, Jim Willis, who had passed on.

Heat race victories went to Dan Speeney and Chris Young.

From the pole position, Chris Burge led the Street Stock field to the drop of the green flag in the 25-lap event that was rescheduled from July 27. Burge led the opening lap over Kevin Higgins, Bernie Uphold, Robert Fink and Randy Schlenker.

The yellow flag flew on lap five and Higgins headed to the pits with an engine miss, which was later found to be a burnt spark plug wire.

Several more yellows slowed the field in the early going and Burge had the field covered on each of the early restarts. That changed once Brian Wozniak climbed to second and began to pressure the leader.

Despite another restart with five laps remaining, Burge held off Wozniak to score his fifth win of the year. Schlenker, Uphold and Charlie Castiglione completed the top five.

Aaron Higgins led the Street Stock field to the drop of the green in the originally scheduled 25-lap main and with one lap complete Schlenker took the lead. Fink followed through to take the second spot and then Castiglione climbed to third.

With four laps in the books, Castiglione got by Fink for second and then Wozniak and Higgins took third and fourth respectively on lap seven.

Castiglione stayed glued to Schlenker and them jumped to the outside. He completed the pass for the lead on lap nine. Wozniak then climbed to second, followed by Schlenker, Higgins and Burge.

Wozniak did all that he could to overtake the leader but was forced to settle for second, as Castiglione took the checkers for his fist career victory. Higgins, Fink and Paul Morgan, Jr. completed the top five.

Charlie Castiglione and Randy Schlenker were heat race winners.

Del Morgan led the Factory Stock field to the drop of the green flag in the 20-lap feature. Rich Paciotti moved into second and then ran up alongside the leader. The pair battled side by side and Paciotti grabbed the top spot.

In a caution-free event, Paciotti notched his second win of the season and Morgan tied his career best with a second place effort. Dan Pawlicki, Stephanie Moyer and Nick Ross completed the top five.

Paciotti was given a $50 bonus for his victory from Nationwide Auto Transport, as was TJ Kapish for being the highest finishing driver on D.O.T. tires.

Dan Pawlicki and del Morgan were heat race winners.

Jay Skupski started form the pole position and led the Four Cylinder field to the green flag in the 20-lap feature. The yellow waved before a lap was completed when John Banashefski and Larry Spencer III tangled in turns three and four.

Green flag racing resumed and Skupski led over Heather Fennell, Justin Hughes, Tom Cavagnino and Anthony Pugliese.

With Skupski still in command over Scott Adams and Fennell on lap 11, the yellow flew when Fennell slowed on the speedway. During the same caution period, Skupski was forced to the pits with overheating issues. The turn of events gave the race lead to Adams.

Adams’ lead however was short-lived, as Banashefski following the restart overtook him.

Despite having the second place car right in his mirror over the second half of the show, Banashefski remained flawless en route to his first career victory. Adams, Spencer, Hughes and Cavagnino completed the top five.

Banashefski was given a $50 bonus for his victory from Nationwide Auto Transport, as was Tony Hilliard for being the highest finishing driver on D.O.T. tires.

Heat race victories went to Jay Skupski and John Banashefski.

A 15-lap exhibition Dirt Modified event was also held and Mark Levy took the victory over Chuck Potts.
