Once again inclement weather forced the cancelation of the racing program last Friday night at the Lee USA Speedway. This time it claimed the most prestigious event of the season; the 13th Annual Ollie Silva Classic for the ISMA Supermodifieds. Fans and competitors were extremely disappointed but continuous drenching rain made it impossible to run the event. Currently ISMA and the Lee USA Speedway are exploring possible alternate dates and more information will be forthcoming in the next few days.
This Friday night August 16th will be the American Used Auto Parts Ironman’s week on top of the heap of the program with the Harvest 200. The entry level division will be going 25 laps for more money than any previous Ironman event so far this season. Travis Hollins, Evan Horvath, Hannah Shaw, and Danielle Simoneau are just some of the division’s top competitors expected to start the event. More entries are expected for this race and even more are coming as the division prepares for the Ironman Super Series Race October 11th through 13th. A $4,000 purse is in the offering with a cool $1,000 going to the winner. ABSOLUTELY THE BIGGEST PURSE FOR AN ENTRY LEVEL DIVISION OFFERED ANYWHERE. The Bensons Hardware Small Block Supers will be back in action this Friday night. Tommy Tombarello is on top of the division’s point standings with three wins. Seven other drivers including Ryan Gath and Mike Murphy have also been to victory this season, the most competitive in years.
The Prime Storage Late Model Sportsman are also going 30 laps Friday night. With three wins, Grant Aither is clearly the division’s top dog.
But James Russell was the winner the last time the late model sportsman took to the track and Alby Ovitt was second. Despite not being able to win so far this season, Ovitt is still a close second in the standings.
Patrick Tanguay is still leading the David’s Race Cars and Components Hobby Stock division standings by a mere 2 points over Jim Paiseczny, despite Piaseczny’s three victories. Wade Worcester and Paul Palin are also still in contention. The hobby stocks will be going 25 laps Friday night.
In just his third start Shawn Waite Jr. of nearby Raymond rocketed through the pack to claim his first checkered flag in the E-Keys for Cars Classic Lites Series at the Monadnock Speedway last Saturday night. Eddie Gilman led the first half of the race and appeared destined for victory until he spun while leading leaving Paul Colson and Dan Poliquin in a two car battle for the lead.
But Waite was careening through the field until he got to the top four. An opportune caution with six laps to go gave him the chance he needed. In a spectacular move, Waite shot under Poliquin exiting turn four and on to his first checkered flag. Unfortunately for Waite, he lost a lead weight somewhere along the way. He came up a few pounds light on the scales and handed the first place trophy to Poliquin. Better luck next time.
Waite, Gilman, Poliquin and the rest of E-Keys for Cars Classic Lites will engage in another exciting battle this Friday night. The mini open wheel cars are competing for an additional $1,000 point fund at the Lee USA Speedway sponsored by DJB Trucking.
