Former speedway champion and local racing hero John Blewett III will be remembered this Saturday night at Wall Stadium as the Modified stock cars are featured in a 76-lap main event. Blewett, who was famous for racing under the number 76, lost his life six summers ago in a Connecticut racing accident.

Saturday night’s special racing card will see grandstand seating opening at 5:00 p.m., with the final 15 laps of a postponed Factory Stock feature and then qualifying set for 6:00 p.m. Scheduled main events are planned for 7:00 p.m.

The fact that Blewett was so popular among his competitors and the 76-lap race offers a lucrative purse is expected to draw an all-star field for the race. In fact, Blewett Scrap and Recycling is offering a $100 bonus to the top five finishers.

John’s brother Jimmy Blewett of Howell has said he will be in the field and invading standouts like former champion Anthony Sesely of Matawan and Pennsylvania standout Zane Zeiner are also expected to see action. Of course speedway standouts Chas Okerson of Freehold, Steven Reed of Freehold, brothers Christian and Adam LaCicero, both of Lavallette and Jason Treat of Jackson will be looking for the win. Young drivers will also be in contention as Andrew Krause of Holmdel, Eric Mauriello of Howell, Brick’s Shawna Ingraham and Chris Lane of Howell are among the young lions.

In addition to the Modified stock cars, the Sportsman racers, Legend Cars, Factory Stocks and the 4 Cylinder racers will also see action. In fact, the Factory Stock racers will finish the final 15 laps of a postponed main event after 6:00 p.m. Modified time trials before competing in their regularly scheduled main event later in the evening. The beautifully restored cars of the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club will also be on hand.

The pit area will open at 1:00 p.m. and practice session will then begin at 2:00 p.m. Spectator seating will open at 5:00 p.m.

On track competition will begin at 6:00 p.m. with Modified time trials, the remaining 15-laps of last weeks Factory Stock feature and qualifying events to be followed by feature race action for all divisions at 7:00 p.m.

More action is then set for Sunday at noon as the Small Car Series will take to the fifth mile paved inner oval.
