Former Lee USA Speedway Late Model and NASCAR New England Regional champion Ricky Wolf, Jr. collected his second win of the 2013 season after an impressive run in the Benson Lumber and Hardware sponsored 30-lap feature event for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Small Block Supermodifieds at Lee USA Speedway on Friday night.

Backing up his first win in the open-wheelers back on July 12, Wolf quickly got past polesitter Leslie Keyser to assume the lead, and he never looked back, leading every lap on the way to a crowded victory lane celebration with his legion of fans, known at the speedway as “The Wolfpack“.

A multi-time winner in 2013, Mike Netishen had a solid run, but the best he could do was to chase Wolf to the checkers for a runner-up finish this time out. Mike Spurling scored another podium finish in the third spot, with fourth going to Jake Stergios, and fifth to points leader Tommy Tombarello, Jr. Moe Lattime, Ryan Gath, Keyser, Sparky MacIver, and Dan Martineau rounded out the top ten finishers.

Wolf and Netishen were victorious in the qualifying heats, which hit the track one car short after popular veteran “Super Dave” Sanborn took a hard hit in the backstretch retaining wall during practice. The incident caused serious damage to Super’s racecar, and sent him home in need of major repairs.

In the Prime Storage and Warehouse Late Model Sportsman main, it was defending champion J.R. Baril’s night to shine once again, and he also took advantage of a front row starting spot to lead every lap of the feature event and score his third win of the year in the Brian House entry.

Baril ran virtually uncontested all the way, with former champ Grant Aither coming on strong in the late laps to checker second. Aither’s teammate Ricky Porter scored a solid third place finish, with Bobby Melvin, Jimmy Russell, Michele Fushpanski, Ryan Green, Niko Maniatis, Ray Dinsmore, and Patrick Stewart the remainder of the top ten.

Chris Jacobson posted his first win of the 2013 campaign in the David’s Race Cars and Components Hobby Stock feature event, passing polesitter Torrey Kovalesky to grab the lead early in the race, and holding off all challengers to pick up his first checkered flag of the season.

Brian DeStefano had his best run of the year to finish in the second spot, with Wade Worster holding on to collect third place honors ahead of Paul Palen. Palen battled hard with Worster in the late laps, but had to settle for fourth at the stripe, followed by Patrick Tanguay, Dennis Dumas, Jim Piaseczny, Eric Hoffman, Kovalesky, and Ron Washburn.

Hannah Shaw was the early leader in the American Used Auto Parts Ironman main, but she eventually lost the top spot to newcomer Floyd Bennett, who went on to easily score the win. Tyler Mitchell finished second, followed by Shane Horvath in his brand new “Silver Bullet”, Shaw, Zach Washburn, Wayne Osborne, Evan Horvath, Travis Hollins, and Austin Elliott.

George Helliwell topped another strong field of E Keys 4 Cars Northeast Classic Lites to claim the latest round of the DJB Trucking Series, with Ken Goodreault, Duane Skofield, Eddie Gilman, and Dan Poliquin finishing up the top five.

This Friday night, August 23rd under the lights Lee will be hosting the Lance Davis Memorial Late Model Sportsman Shoot-Out presented by Prime Storage Warehouse and Storage along with the Small Block Supers, Hobby Stocks and Ironman Series.
