The 2013 points battles have been raging since the first green flag this season at Bowman Gray Stadium. But this Saturday, it all comes to a head in
one final night of racing before the champions are crowned.
In the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series, Burt Myers of Walnut Cove has had a reprieve for the last two weeks as summer rainstorms have led to the postponement of Stadium racing. He didn’t
have the opportunity to pad his 27-point lead but didn’t have to risk losing any ground to the rest of the field either.
Brother Jason Myers of Walnut Cove and John Smith of Mount Airy now enter the Carolina Farm Credit 150 this Saturday night tied for second in the points. And with double points on the line,
Burt Myers’s 27-point margin translates into less than a seven-position difference.
Jason Myers finished second in the points last season as Tim Brown of Rural Hall went on to grab his ninth title. But in 2013, Jason has enjoyed the best season he’s ever had in the Modified
Series: He’s racked up four wins, three poles, and 217 laps led. John Smith has also had his strongest season ever with two wins and a top-ten finish in 19 out of 20 races in 2013.
In the past twenty years, the Modified titles at Bowman Gray Stadium have been claimed by only a handful of drivers: Tim Brown, Burt Myers, Junior Miller of Danbury, and Robert Jeffreys of
Wallburg. Now, Jason Myers and John Smith are only 150 laps away from potentially grabbing their first championship and breaking into that elusive club.
But the Carolina Farm Credit 150 will put them to the test. It’s the second-longest race that the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series competes in – and the Midway Trailer Rental Double-File
Restart Cone will add an extra element of endurance and strategy into the mix.
In the Classic Muscle Sportsman Series, Mack Little of Lexington will be trying to hold off Zack Clifton of Walkertown. After Clifton faltered a little in the last race, Little enters the season
finale with a 44-point lead – an 11-position advantage.
Doug Wall of Pfafftown has a 38-point margin separating him from John Holleman of Winston-Salem in the points battle for the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series.
The most crowded points race belongs to the Summer Shootout Stadium Stock Series, with Chuck Wall of Lexington leading Jason Keaton of Mocksville by 24 points – with five other
competitors close enough to potentially grab the crown away.
The final night of racing action will take place this Saturday in the Carolina Farm Credit 150. The Sportsman, Street Stock, and Stadium Stock Divisions will also duke it out on this one last
night – and the evening will end with the always wild 109 U-Pull-It Chain Race.
