There’s no doubt that Matt Hirschman of Northampton is a threat each and every time he walks through the pit gate at Mountain Speedway and he proved just that Saturday night. After buying his way into the make up Modified feature from July 27, Hirschman quickly drove his way to the front of the field and then cruised to the $1,500 victory in his first Mountain start this season. He then time trialed quickest for the originally scheduled $2,500 to win main event and took the checkers in that one as well. Chris Burge of Mountaintop scored his sixth Street Stock feature victory and also from Mountaintop, Matt Mattern, Jr. grabbed his fifth Factory Stock win of the year. Ray Fennell IV of Lackawaxen started from the pole position and led flag to flag in his first career Four Cylinder victory.

Amber Fortin started from the pole position and led the opening circuit of the 30-lap Modified make up feature from July 27. Barry Callavini rode in the second spot with John Fortin, Jr, Allen Creveling and John Fortin, Sr. in tow.

Fortin, Sr. took fourth from Creveling on lap one and then the yellow waved on lap three when Jarrod Nace spun in turn two. Callavini gave up the second spot when he pitted under the caution.

Green flag racing resumed and Matt Hirschman, who started in ninth, climbed to third. Brian DeFebo followed through for the fourth spot. Two laps later, Fortin, Sr. grabbed the lead and both Hirschman and DeFebo followed for second and third respectively.

Hirschman followed Fortin, Sr. and then made his move on lap 12. He led that lap by a bumper before Fortin, Sr. fought back to lead lap 13. Four circuits later, Hirschman took the lead for good. DeFebo battled hard with Fortin, Sr. for second and finally took the second spot from him with five laps remaining.

Uncontested to the line, Hirschman took his first win of the evening over DeFebo, Fortin, Sr, John Fortin, Jr. and A. Fortin.

Time trials were held for the originally scheduled 75-lap Modified feature. Hirschman showed muscle and ran the quickest time. The top six time trailers redrew for position, which put Ken Vogel, Jr. on the pole for the start of the event. Hirschman lined up in second and quickly took command at the drop of the green.

With five laps complete, Hirschman continued to lead over Vogel. Jason Hearne held third, followed by J. Fortin, Jr. and J. Fortin, Sr.

The top five remained the same for the early potion of the show and by lap 25, Hearne had moved into the second spot. Dan Speeney also cracked into the top five and ran fifth at the time.

During a lap 41 yellow flag for Callavini, Hearne gave up the runner up spot to pit. Green flag racing resumed with Hirschman at the point, followed by J. Fortin, Sr, Vogel and Paul Frantz. Speeney got by Frantz shortly after to move back in the top five.

With the green flag back out, Hearne quickly charged back toward the front. With 44 laps complete, he got by Frantz and then overtook Speeney for fourth. Four laps later he overtook Vogel for third and set his sights on J. Fortin, Sr.

Hearne worked j. Fortin, Sr, made his moved and completed the second place pass on lap 54. Without a caution flag over the remaining laps, Hearne was forced to settle for second as Hirschman ran away with his second feature win of the day. J. Fortin, Sr, Frantz and Vogel completed the top five.

Aaron Higgins led the Street Stock field to the drop of the green flag in the 25-lap feature. He led the first lap over Bernie Uphold, Chris Burge, Rich Emel and Robert Fink. Burge overtook Uphold for second on lap one and then took the lead from A. Higgins on the same lap.

After having several strong finishes this summer, Randy Schlenker broke into the top five and quickly ran up to second. With five laps complete, Fink ran in third, followed by Uphold and Emel.

Kevin Higgins turned up the heat and got by Emel for fifth on lap seven. He then powered by Uphold for third on lap eight before taking third from Fink on a lap 12 restart.

With only one caution period in the whole show, Burge took the checkers for his sixth win of the season over Schlenker, Higgins, Fink and Uphold.

Randy Schlenker and Robert Fink were heat race winners.

Matt Mattern, Jr. set fast time for the 20-lap Factory Stock feature and Stephanie Moyer started from the pole position in the feature. Mattern grabbed the lead at the drop of the green and led the first circuit over Moyer, Alan Schlenker, Del Morgan and Mike Adams.

Moyer fought back to retake the lead on lap one before Mattern stole it back on the third circuit.

Untouchable to the finish, Mattern drove away with the victory in the caution-free event over Moyer, Schlenker, Morgan and M. Adams.

Ray Fennell IV led the Four Cylinder field to the drop of the green flag in the 20-lap feature. He led the opening lap over Jay Skupski, Heather fennel, Larry Spencer III and Harry O’Neill.

O’Neill moved into fourth and then took third from H. Fennell on lap four. Scott Adams followed through shortly and then battled with O’Neill.

From the second spot, Skupski attempted to get around R. Fennel for the lead but each attempt fell to the wayside. With four laps remaining, R. Fennell continued to set the pace over Skupski, O’Neill, John Banashefski and Adams.

The top four drivers battled hard to the finished and it appeared as if any one of them could steal the victory, but R. Fennell didn’t slip and went on to score his first career victory. O’Neill edged Adams to the line for second and Tanner Fennell III and Banashefski completed the top five.

Heat race victories went to Ray fennel IV and Heather Fennell
