The Labor Day weekend at Mahoning Valley Speedway has traditionally been headlined with a 100-lap feature for the Street Stocks. Last year’s event was named in honor of Mike Krempasky, the popular car owner who passed away prior to the start of the 2012 season. His driver, TJ Gursky, has won the past two Street Stock titles at Mahoning and is currently in line for an unprecedented third.

With the Labor Day holiday upon us, the Street Stocks will once again take the spotlight on Saturday evening, August 31. However, a change in the format is taking place. Instead of 100 laps, the Streeters will do battle in Triple 19s.

As a special tribute to Krempasky, the class will race in three 19-lap features, each paying $419 to win. The 19 is the number that is synonymous on all of Krempasky’s cars.

Taking a page from the wildly popular Modified Triple 25s, track management felt this would be a great opportunity for the Street Stocks as well. And, with weekly cars counts this season averaging near 30 or more, this should provide plenty of intense action for drivers and fans alike.

As a support class, the Street Stocks at Mahoning Valley Speedway continue to be one of the strongest and competitive, not just at this speedway but regionally as well. Because they are such a solid group of dedicated racers, promoter Floyd Santee saw fit to increase their weekly purse and up the number of feature laps this season. And by having the Triple 19s this will give them several additional opportunities in one night to collect extra cash.

The plan will be similar to the Modified Triple 25s. There will be time trials and a redraw of the top 12, although there is a twist. Instead of drivers doing a random pick for the first 12 starting spots for themselves, they will partake in a revenge draw, adding a bit more spice. Drivers will pick and decide where another driver will start within the top 12.

Modifieds, Late Models, Dirt Mods, Pro 4s and Hobby Stocks will also be on the docket.

Racing gets under way at 6:00 p.m. Grandstands open at 4:00. Adult general admission is $15.

There will be early paid practice from 1:00 to 3:00 at $25.00 per car. Regular warm-ups will be held from 4:00 – 5:00.

Mahoning Valley Speedway is located on PA route 443, two miles west of Lehighton. Additional info can be found on the track’s website at www.mahoningvalley-speedway.com Also on Facebook at Mahoning Valley Speedway or call the track office at 570-386-4900.
