Entering this season Mitch Hawk of Saylorsburg had zero feature wins at Mountain Speedway. That all changed earlier in the year when he notched his first Late Model victory. In the last regularly scheduled Saturday night show of the season, Hawk led flag to flag and cruised to his fifth victory of the year. In a heated battle to the finish, Charlie Castiglione of Freeland drove to his second Street Stock win of the season and Paul Morgan, Jr. of Mountaintop notched his fourth Factory Stock win of the year. Scott Adams of Lake Ariel continued in his winning ways and picked up his thirteenth Four Cylinder victory and Mark Levy pulled of his second Dirt Modified feature win of the year.
Mark Tyson started from the pole position and led the Late Models to the drop of the green flag in the 30-lap event, but Mitch Hawk grabbed the lead. He led the first circuit over Tyson and Paul Monkoski.
The top four remained the same in the early going and then third place changed hands when Frank Hughes took the spot from Monkoski.
In a caution-free event, Hawk set a steady paced and remained out front to pick up his fifth win of the season. Tyson finished a career-best second, followed by Hughes. Hawk also picked up the heat race win.
Rich Emel led the Street Stock field to the drop of the green flag in the 250-lap feature. He led the first lap over Robert Fink, Bernie Uphold, Brian Wozniak and Randy Schlenker. Fink pressured Emel for the lead and took command on lap one. He continued to lead with five laps in the books and by that point in the race, Wozniak had climbed to third and Kevin Higgins ran fourth.
Charlie Castiglione cracked the top five and with seven laps complete Higgins overtook Emel for the third spot. Higgins snuck through for fourth.
Following a lap 10 yellow, Higgins got by Wozniak for second and then set his sights on the leader. One lap later Higgins grabbed the race lead and Castiglione followed though for second.
Castiglione and Higgins battled hard for the lead as they ran side by side. Castiglione led lap 13 and Higgins took the spot back to lead lap 14. Castiglione retook the spot on lap 15. Smoke began to bellow from Higgins’ car, but that didn’t slow him down, as he continued to fight for the lead.
Higgins’ luck went south on lap 21 when the mechanical issue forced him to stop on the raceway. Green flag racing resumed with Wozniak in second behind Castiglione. Steve Shultz had worked his way up to restart in third, followed by Schlenker and Emel.
Despite several restarts in the late going, the top five remained the same to the finish, as Castiglione brought home his second victory of the year.
Heat race victories went to Bernie Uphold and Randy Schlenker.
Frank Katona started form the pole position in the 20-lap Factory Stock feature and was overtaken for the lead by Paul Morgan, Jr. before a lap was scored. Del Morgan ran third, followed by Matt Mattern, Jr.
As the laps clicked off, P. Morgan began to open up a gap between himself and Katona. With three laps remaining, Mattern overtook Morgan for third and set his focus on Katona.
P. Morgan had no trouble cruising to his fourth feature win of the year and Katona barely held off Mattern to earn his best finish of the season. P. Morgan was also the heat race winner.
Jay Skupski started on the pole position and led the first circuit of the 20-lap Four Cylinder feature over Tanner Fennell, Heather Fennell, Larry Spencer and Harry O’Neill. It didn’t take long for John Banashefski and Scott Adams to crack the top five. With two laps complete, Banashefski got by H. Fennell for the third spot and Adams followed through to take fourth.
With Skupski well in the race lead things heated up in his mirror. Adams worked on Banashefski to take third on lap seven and then overtook T. Fennell for second four laps later.
A quick yellow flew on lap 14, which lined Adams up alongside of Skupski. Following the return of the green flag, Adams took the lead and Banashefski battled hard for second with Skupski.
The remainder of the event went caution-free and Adams came out with his thirteenth victory of the season. Banashefski wound up with a second place finish, followed by O’Neill, Skupski and Ray Fennell IV.
Jay Skupski and Scott Adams were heat race winners.
From the pole position, Darrin Schuler led the Dirt Modified field to the drop of the green in the 20-lap feature. He led the opening lap over Mark Levy and Chuck Potts.
Levy took the top spot and Scott Adams climbed to third. As Levy began to drive away from the field, Adams battled hard with Schuler for second. Lap after lap Adams tired his moved and Schuler threw the block.
With Levy still showing the way, Adams took second from Schuler with five laps remaining but never had a chance to challenge the leader in the caution-free show.
Levy drove off to take the checkers for his second win of the year. Scott Adams was the heat race winner earlier in the evening.
