Andrew Krause continued his outstanding 2013 season as he grabbed a win in the Sportsman 50-lap championship race Saturday night at Wall Stadium. It was the Holmdel resident’s fourth win of the year and season straight victory.

Ken Matlach of New Hyde Park, N.Y., making his first Sportsman start this season, was the early leader as Krause quickly climbed into contention. This battle heated up rapidly until the duo touched in the second turn on lap 15 and Matlach spun from the lead. Krause then continued on out front but the race was far from over.

Veterans Robert Sutphin of Brick and Manasquan’s Kenny Van Wickle challenged every lap before finishing second and third, while Matlach recovered for fourth and Zack Alspach of Willingboro finished fifth.

“The car was almost perfect tonight,” Krause said. “I needed it to be. It seemed everyone was fast tonight.”

Trevor Alspach of Willingboro swept a pair of 25-lap features for the Legend Cars. In the first race Trevor jumped to the lead early and never looked back. Howell’s Robert French Ron Poley of Egg harbor Township, Flemington’s bob Baltera and Joe McGrath of Middletown wrapped up the top five.

In the second Legend Cars race McGrath led early before Trevor Alspach took the lead for good on lap 11. Zack Alspach was second in this one with McGrath, French and Kyle Dealaman of Warren second through fifth.

James Meyers of Port Monmouth raced past early leader Jerry Stanzione to win the 25-lapper for the 4 Cylinder cars. Stanzione took down runner-up honors, as Mike Wahl of East Islip, N.Y., Beachwood’s Todd Pilla and Wall’s Cole Ormsbee completed the top five.

Jackson’s Glen Conk took his first ever win in thrilling fashion in the 25-lapper for the Limited Late Models. After being in contention most of the way the leaders slipped just past halfway and Conk charged into the lead. Conk then fought off Brian Doyle of Coram, N.Y. and Bayville’s Mike Tillett for glory. Michelle Moorman and Jack Sayegh of South Toms River wrapped up the top five.

This Saturday night (Sept. 14) the Modified stock cars return for a 40-lap main event. Also on the speedway the Sportsman cars, Factory Stocks, Legend Cars and 4 Cylinders are also set for action. The Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club will also have beautiful vintage race cars on hand.

Qualifying is slated for 6 p.m. and main event action is set for 7:00 p.m. Grandstand seating opens at 5 p.m.

Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on most Saturdays and Sundays during the summer months. The speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B.
