AVERY, FEARN, DOWLING, WOOD, & L'ETOILE SCORE SEPT. 13th LINCOLN TECH 80 NASCAR WHELEN ALL-AMERICAN SERIES FEATURE WINS AT STAFFORD

Stafford Speedway returned to NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing action with the Valenti Modified Racing Series in the house for the 3rd Annual Lincoln Tech 80. Dan Avery picked up his first Stafford SK Modified® victory since 1982 in the 40-lap SK Modified® feature, Tom Fearn picked up his fifth win of the season in the 30-lap Late Model feature, Chase Dowling picked up his seventh win of the season in the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature, Josh Wood picked up his fourth win of the season in the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature, and Frank L'Etoile, Jr. picked up his second win of the season in the 15-lap DARE Stock feature.

In the 40-lap SK Modified® feature event, Michael Gervais, Jr. took the lead at the green with Matt Galko right behind him in second. Joey Cipriano was third, with Danny Cates fourth and Todd Owen in fifth. With 2 laps complete, Tom Bolles and Curt Brainard hit the turn 1 wall and briefly collected the car of Eric Berndt to bring the caution out.

On the restart, the outside line was bogged down and Doug Coby got into the car in front of him which turned him into the frontstretch wall and brought the caution back out as Coby came to a stop in turn 2. The next restart saw Glen Reen and Kurt Lenahan spin on the backstretch to bring the caution back out.

Gervais took the lead on the next restart while Cipriano moved up to second. Dan Avery was third with Berndt and Cates side by side for fifth. Berndt got clear of Cates to take fourth and Ted Christopher and Keith Rocco were lined up right behind Cates in sixth and seventh.
Cipriano made a move to the inside of Gervais on lap-14 to move into the lead. Avery followed suit and he got by Gervais to take second on lap-15. Avery's move brought Berndt along with him to drop Gervais back to fourth after leading the first 13 laps of the race. Cates was fifth with Rocco getting around Christopher to move up to sixth place.

Rocco continued his charge towards the front as he moved around Cates in the outside groove to move up to fifth place on lap-20. Berndt made a move to the inside of Avery on lap-22 to move up to second while Rocco was pressuring Gervais. Berndt did a half spin coming out of turn 2 on lap-23 and he slid to the back of the field but the race stayed green. The action was slowed by the caution flag with 29 laps complete as Tommy Barrett and Tommy Membrino, Jr. each spun in turn 4.

On the restart, Cates and Rocco touched wheels on the backstretch and both cars spun into the turn 3 wall to bring the caution out. Under the caution, SK points leader Ryan Preece came to a stop on the backstretch and had to be pushed back to pit road where his crew went to work under hood of the #40 with an apparent distributor problem.

The order for the restart was Cipriano and Avery on the front row, Christopher and Todd Owen on the second row, and Woody Pitkat and Gervais on the third row. On the restart, Avery got a good run on the outside of Cipriano and he took the lead as the field completed lap 30. Christopher was third with Owen in fourth and Pitkat in fifth.

Avery held off Cipriano to the checkered flag to pick up his first SK Modified® feature victory at Stafford since 1982, the first season of SK Modified® competition. Christopher finished third, with Owen and Pitka rounding out the top-5.

In the 30-lap Late Model feature event, Rick Charette took the lead and Kevin Gambacorta moved up to second as Art Caruso was falling back. J.J. Hill took over third, with Tom Fearn and Woody Pitkat making up the top-5. Charette held the lead until lap-9 when Gambacorta made a move around Charette. Gambacorta's pass opened the door for Hill, Fearn, and Pitkat to all move by Charette as he fell from the lead back to fifth.

Once Gambacorta was in the lead, the positions up front began to change quickly. Gambacorta held the lead until lap-13 when Hill moved to the front. But Hill's time out front was short as well as Fearn got around him on lap-17 to take over the lead.

With 5 laps to go, Fearn was the leader with Pitkat, Hill, Gray, and Gambacorta lined up behind him. Fearn led Pitkat back to the checkered flag to pick up his fifth win of the season. Gray got by Hill on the final lap of the race to finish third and extend his streak of consecutive podium finishes to 16. Gray also clinched the 2013 Late Model track championship thanks in large part to his podium streak. Hill finished fourth with Gambacorta rounding out the top-5.

In the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature event, Glenn ahead of Griswold took the early lead ahead of Bob Charland, but the field was only able to complete one lap before the caution came out as Todd Douillard, Payton Henry, Dylan Menditto, and Ronnie Williams spun in turn 1.

Back under green, Griswold took the lead after choosing the outside groove for the restart. Tyler Hines got around Charland to move into second and on lap-4 Troy Talman got around Charland to move into third place. Jay Goff was in fifth, just behind Charland who was now fourth after restarting second. Contact between Joey Ferrigno and Geoff Boisjolie send Boisjolie around and brought the caution out with 5 laps complete.

Griswold again took the lead back under green with Chase Dowling getting a good run around Hines to move into second. Talman was dueling with Hines for third with Tony Membrino, Jr. lined up behind them in fifth place. Dowling caught up to Griswold's bumper on lap-14 and he was working the high groove and looking to take over the lead. Behind Dowling and Griswold, Talman and Hines were side by side for third with Membrino right behind them in fifth.

Dowling and Griswold raced lap after lap side by side with neither driver giving an inch. Griswold was leading the laps, but by less than a car length. Dowling changed his strategy on lap-19 as he moved to the bottom groove and pulled alongside Griswold. They fought side by side on the final lap with Dowling getting the advantage coming out of turn 4 to the checkered flag to pick up his seventh win of the season. Talman finished third behind Dowling and Griswold, with Membrino and Hines rounding out the top-5.

In the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature event, Justin Bren streaked into the lead at the green with Glenn Bartkowski right behind him.
David Arute quickly took third with Josh Wood fourth and D.J. Burnham in fifth place. Bren was setting a quick pace and he opened up a half straightaway lead over Bartkowski. Wood got around Arute to take over third on lap-7 and Burnham followed him past Arute as Arute fell from third back to fifth place. Bartkowski's car was drifting high in the corners and he appeared to have a flat tire as he slowed on the track and limped his way back to pit road.

At the halfway point of the race, Bren was still in command with Wood now giving chase from second. Burnham was third, with Arute fourth and Jesse Hinze was now fifth. Right behind Hinze was last week's winner Duane Provost and Austin Bessette.

Wood got around Bren for the lead on lap-16 and he led Bren back to the checkered flag to pick up his fourth win of the season. Burnham finished third, with Arute and Hinze rounding out the top-5.

In the 15-lap DARE Stock feature event, Alexandra Fearn took the lead at the green and David Comeau took second behind Fearn. The top-2 cars pulled out to an early advantage over third place Johnny Walker, who had Frank L'Etoile, Jr. in fourth. Doug Phelps was fifth and he had a host of cars lined up behind him.

Comeau nearly took the lead on lap-3 but he settled back into line behind Fearn. Comeau made a move to the inside of Fearn on lap-6 and he took the lead on lap-7. Walker and L'Etoile were still third and fourth while Jeremy Lavoie was now in fifth as Phelps had fallen back to the rear of the field. L'Etoile worked his way around Walker to move into third on lap-9 while Comeau continued to hold the lead ahead of Fearn.

The caution came out with 13 laps complete as Fearn spun around on the backstretch to set up a green white checkered finish. Comeau and L'Etoile were on the front row for the restart with Walker and Lavoie on row 2 and Brandon Michael and Kyle Casagrande on row 3.
There was heartbreak on the restart as Comeau's car lost drive and he pulled off the track, ending his bid for his first career victory. L'Etoile moved into the lead due to Comeau's misfortune and he led Lavoie back to the checkered flag by less than a car length to pick up his second win of the 2013 season. Kyle Casagrande finished third, with Dave Secore and Michael rounding out the top-5.
