Several years prior to this season's 14th annual "King Of The Mountain" weekend, Mountain Speedway promoter, Joe Callavini, opened eyes when he hosted the first Street Stock Shootout event in the area. Street Stock drivers from all over the Northeast battled door handle to door handle, and the action on track was fast and furious. When the checkered flag waved, Jim Buzinski of Slatington, PA would take home nearly 2 thousand dollars in prize and lap money, a huge amount of money for the grass roots racing division back then.

Fast forward to 2013, and the Street Stock division is still some of the toughest competition in the Northeast. With few big races in the area for the popular Street Stocks, which utilize chassis and body styles of the muscle cars from the 70s and 80s, Callavini has once again raised eye brows. This past weekend, Mountain Speedway announced that the Street Stock portion of the 14th annual KOTM event on Sunday, October 13, will now pay a whopping 2 Grand to the driver lucky enough to conquer the battle and wear the crown after 75 laps.
"We haven't had a big Street Stock race in some time." stated Callavini. "My son, Barry, started in the Street Stocks...and they have always been a favorite of mine." Callavini added.

Street Stock drivers from surrounding states are already buzzing.

"Count me in!", posted Riverhead Raceway regular, Chris Turbush, earlier in the week on Facebook. Other drivers have also been in contact with the Speedway since the announcement, and all drivers are urged to pre-enter using the printable form on the Speedway website at mountainspeedway.com, or call the speedway at (570)788-7544.

The tire rule for the Street Stocks has been opened up to allow for any 8-inch treaded or slick Street Stock tire on the Left Side, with the Hoosier 980 Mountain track tire required on the Right Side. All other Mountain safety rules will apply. All drivers will draw a pill for heat race starting positions, with a last chance qualifier to fill the field.

The KOTM weekend has become a do-not-miss Fall classic event for both race fans and racers alike. The weekend kicks off on Friday, with a practice session from 2-6 PM. Saturday's action is highlighted by the 150 lap, $5K to win event for the Mighty ground pounding open wheel Modifieds, along with a full racing card of support divisions. Sunday's action is highlighted by the 75 lapper for the Street Stocks, with a full day of racing action scheduled. A full weekend schedule will be available in the near future on the speedway website. Who will wear the crown in 2013???...BE THERE to find out!.
