There’s a reason Earl Paules is referred to as “The Hurricane” as the prolific racer stormed to his 14th win of the season in winning the Small Car Enduro held Saturday afternoon at Mahoning Valley Speedway.
Paules led every lap of the one hour timed event that started in the rain and ended after 203 laps on a semi-dry track. Despite the wet and slippery conditions, Paules never turned a wheel wrong and avoided all others with a preciseness of very keen driving.
He did encounter a near mishap in the closing laps when his teammate Derek Barachie almost forced him into the wall as Paules was trying to get by and then Bob Snyder, another teammate, spun slightly in front which caused him to brush the wall. With the trouble behind Paules cruised to the victory by a full lap margin over Snyder.
Paules has now won a feature in every car he raced with this year including a Modified, Late Model, TQ Midget and 4-Cylinder Stock. And, he moved into second on the Mahoning all-time winners list with 44 triumphs.
In the Big Car Enduro it was Long Island Enduro ace Rob McCormick besting the field by three laps at the finish. He led just over three-quarters of the race en route to his first win at Mahoning Valley.
TJ Kapisch, who won here in August, was second with Mahoning Street Stock regular Stacey Brown third.
Recently crowned Micro Stock Racing Series champion Bob Wagner closed out the 2013 season with another victory. Wagner led all 25 laps and was extremely dominant as he flashed under the checkered flag a half lap ahead of everyone else.
’13 point’s runner-up Robert McGuire held off Alex Greenzweig for runner-up honors with Walt Mueller and Tyler Stangle completing the top five.
The Champ Karts made a rare Mahoning appearance but after Saturday’s action it may be safe to say they will be seen more often as they all raced close, clean and put on some intense racing on the biggest track they have had the chance to compete at.
Justin Gumley won a barnburner over Brad Hinkleman and Kyle Kania in the Sr. Champ Kart 25-lap feature while in the Jr. Kart event it was much the same as 8-year old John Kendall nipped Alex Kolonics and Gavin Santee for the win.
