Riggleman and Larry Spencer III Take Track Titles

Round No. 7 of the Mountain Madness Enduro Series kicked off Saturday at Mountain Speedway and many enduro drivers took the opportunity to compete in the annual “Halloween Screamer”, which was the final points event of the season. With double points on the line, it was expected to be a competitive show, and that it was. When it was all said and done, Scott Riggleman of Manchester, NJ brought home the 150-lap 6/8-Cylinder victory and Scott Adams of Lake Ariel wrapped up the Four Cylinder win. Along with his victory, Riggleman also clinched his first divisional title at the track, as did Larry Spencer III in Four Cylinder competition.

TJ Kapish led the 6/8-Cylinder field to the drop of the green flag and led the opening lap over Jerry Koenig, Steve tito, Scott Sipe and Mark Wolf. Shortly after, Rob McCormick climbed to fifth.

With Kapish still showing the way, McCormick grabbed fourth from Sipe on lap four and then moved past Tito for third three laps later. Four laps after that he overtook Koenig for second and began to reel in the leader. Meanwhile, Scott Riggleman cracked the top five.

With 15 laps complete, Kapish continued to hold off McCormick for the lead and Koenig, Sipe and Riggleman trailed.

Riggleman overtook Sipe for third on lap 17 and then tracked down the leaders, who ran nose to tail. With 37 laps in the books, McCormick challenged Kapish for the top spot and Riggleman sat patiently behind in third.

McCormick finally appeared to have a shot at the lead but Riggleman took the spot on lap 62. Kapish retook the lead on the following lap and then McCormick charged out front to lead lap 64. Riggleman moved to second and finally retook the lead on lap 79.

In a very close battle to the end, Riggleman held on for the $500 which also earned him his first championship at the speedway. McCormick claimed second, followed by Kapish, Bill Schwenck and Wolf.

Paul Mercante led the Four Cylinder field to the drop of the green in the 150-lap show but Scott Adams grabbed the lead before a lap was complete. Jay Skupski ran second, followed by Tony Hilliard, Mercante and Larry Spencer III.

From out of nowhere, Frank Katona cracked the top five and then climbed to second on lap two when he overtook Spencer, Hilliard and Skupski on the same lap. He then reeled in Adams and took the race lead on lap nine.

With 15 laps in the books, Katona continued to show the way over Adams, Harry O’Neill, Spencer and Skupski but that all changed when Adams retook the top spot on lap 35. Katona fell out of the race shortly after.

Adams continued to show the way at the halfway mark over O’Neill, who had made his way to second, followed by Spencer, mike Harding and Hilliard. However, O’Neill’s day ended when he hit the pits with 26 laps remaining.

Untouched to the finish, Adams crossed the stripe for his third win in his third enduro start this season. Spencer ended up in the second spot and earned his first track championship. Harding, Hilliard and Jeff Ackerman completed the top five.
