Track Focused on Upcoming NEPA Laurel Mall Race Car Show

Evergreen Raceway Park recently released the divisional purses for the 2014 racing season at the 1/3-mile paved oval. Most of the payouts increased from previous years but the biggest gain for racers is that the second through last place money has been increased as well. The payouts are based on a full field of twenty cars and the Modified payout for a regular show is now $1,600.

There have been significant increases in several divisions with the highest being in the growing Four Cylinder FWD class, which is now $250 to win. The green money for the division is $50. The payouts are also structured so that special shows with extra laps pay more money.

All of the divisional payouts, including the Enduro divisions are available by visiting the speedway website.

In an effort to utilize the facility for something other than racing itself, track management has begun to contact local music talent to book them for a Summer Concert Series, which is planned to take place on Friday nights.

“Having local bands with nice followings at the track is what this area needs”, said track Manager, Harry Buchman.

“We want people to come out, see the track and know that it exists. Hopefully they’ll enjoy it as much as the racers do and they want to come back for more. If it gets a good reception from the people in attendance, we might even have a nationally known act there as well”.

Buchman and his team are now focused on the upcoming NEPA Laurel Mall Race Car Show in West Hazleton, which is slated to run from February 10-15. The speedway will have a booth at the show and several stars from the track will have their 2014 rides on display. Any drivers that have not registered to be in the show are asked to contact show coordinator, Dino Oberto at dlmo@ptd.net.

Several “Battle for the Green” dates are in the planning stages and the dates will be announced before the first official race of the season. Over the period of a month, six-eight local bands (two per race night) will play at intermission. The fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite. The winners from each night will then compete on a named date to see who will win the $1,000 prize in the “Battle for the Green”. Any band(s) that is interested in performing are asked to contact Gene Ostrowski by email at gjtost@verizon.net. This event is designed for amateur musicians and singers, not for bands that have been around, playing gigs for years.

Evergreen Raceway Park management will officially take over the track grounds on March 1 and they cannot wait to get to work on a wide array of improvements. They would like to thank all of the racers, fans, crewmembers and local residents for all of their support as they begin to put the green back in Evergreen.

Evergreen Raceway Park is just minutes from Hazleton, Pa, located on St. John’s Road, between Routes 93 and 309. For more information, including upcoming shows and news, please visit www.evergreenracewaypark.com.
