Courtney Harrison named Car Judge
The first edition of the NEPA Race Car Show that will be taking place the week of February 9-15 at the Laurel Mall in West Hazleton is about to come to fruition as event organizer Dino Oberto and mall management have been hard at work in preparation for the more than 40 race vehicles that are expected to fill the isle ways of the popular northeast Pennsylvania shopping center.
The week long affair will be a great opportunity for many of the area’s race starved fans who have been braving through a very rugged winter to take ease in knowing that the 2014 race season is just around the corner with the display of race cars that will be showcased.
Courtney Harrison, host of the highly watched Inside Track on ABC affiliate WNEP-TV 16 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and covers all racing action throughout northeast Pennsylvania, has been named as the official judge for the Best Appearing Car award. Harrison will be at the mall on Friday afternoon, February 14, to make her selection.
The winner will then be announced on Saturday, February 15 which will be a full day of activity.
Driver interviews will take place at center court near JC Penny starting at 2:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come out and meet all the racers for photos and autographs. Various race organizers will also be on hand to promote their respective events for the upcoming season.
At 4:30 p.m., Tracy Berger-Carmen who recently authored the book, “Images of Sports: Nazareth Speedway” will be signing copies of her excellent publication that chronicle’s the history of the former iconic Lehigh Valley race track. It’s a must read for those who recall both the ˝-mile and mile tracks that helped shape northeast racing into the forefront of the region’s sports activities.
On Friday evening, February 14, a Racers Night Out will be held at the Red Buzzard Pub which is located at 28th Street and PA Route 940 in Harleigh, just a few miles from the Laurel Mall. All are invited to enjoy a fun filled evening with plenty of “bench racing” to go around.
Cars will be brought into the mall on Sunday, February 9 starting at 5:00 p.m. and exit on Saturday, February 15 at 9:00 p.m.
Road racers, drag racers, short track racers along with kart and quarter midget racers are will take up every available spot in the mall.
The Laurel Mall is located at 106 Laurel Mall Rd, West Hazleton, 18202 just off PA Route 93. It is one mile east of exit 145 off I-81.
