Despite having four snow storms during the last week, the NEPA Race Car Show at the Laurel Mall in West Hazleton, PA went off without a hitch and thanks to many of the local drivers and event coordinator Dino Oberto, Evergreen Raceway Park was well-represented in the show, which went off without a hitch.

Brian Sones had his Modified on display, as did Tom Cassagrande, Scott Adams and Tommy Wanick III. Track investors Harry Buchman and Ron Babula also had their Modified race cars at the show, with Steve Shultz and Travis Fisher representing the Late Model division. Stephanie Moyer had her Pure Stock on display for race fans and Tony Hilliard had his Four Cylinder racer on hand as well.

In the early afternoon on Sunday, Oberto interviewed most of the drivers that had their mounts on display and also spoke with the track promoters that were on hand for the first annual event. Courtney Harrison from WNEP visited the show earlier in the week to choose the vehicle for the Best Appearing Car award and it was announced on Sunday that Travis Fisher of Fern Glen, PA was the winner of the award, which was sponsored by Franzosa Trucking.

With the show now in the past, Buchman and his team now have their sights set on moving into the facility in the beginning of March and that’s when they will begin to make improvements to the restrooms, grounds and buildings. They also have an Evergreen Raceway Park Race Car Show planned in the near future, which will take place at Lowes in Hazleton, PA. The dates and times will be announced shortly.

Buchman was happy with the turnout at the Laurel Mall and said that a lot of local people showed interest in the speedway.

“Some said that they didn’t know that such a track existed in our area and they took schedules and posters, which is great”, he said.

“Of course we plan to advertise and promote heavily, we really do appreciate the efforts that everyone has been and is doing to help promote ‘their home track’ as much as possible.”

Ms. Evergreen Raceway Park was also named at the show and the winner was Ryla Knittle.

Evergreen Raceway Park is just minutes from Hazleton, Pa, located on St. John’s Road, between Routes 93 and 309. For more information, including upcoming shows and news, please visit www.evergreenracewaypark.com.
